This is the sort of thing that does not help the forum - Insulting a person making an inquiry, followed up by posts disputing what they said as being true, while not having any actual experience with the product; especially a to a new member. I'm not disputing what you or Sharkman are saying...
Is there a way to monitor the analog input on the camera to be sure it is detecting the video?
Perhaps it needs to be in a certain mode (recording) for it to be on the DV out.
Can you record the analog input on the camera and play it back out the DV?
One thing that put me off was the bashing of people's efforts to produce a video about some widgit they built or some product they reviewed. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but when people got thrashed on for their efforts, there was no reason to continue.
The best example of this...
Reddit - Right you are. I had not though of that. So that rules my phone thing out.
The Brawley situation was most-unfortunate. Between John and Barry leaving, was that a turning point? I think not, as forums in general have faded. But it sure didn't help. Even dedicated major-contributors such...

FILMMAKER: But I do have lots of money.
OTHERS: Welcome friend! Sit down. Make yourself comfortable.
This reminds me of a person who joined a film group I was in. She told us that for two years she shot film of the activities in a woman's clothing store. She said she joined the group because she wanted help. When asked what her idea was for the film, she said she didn't know.

For my participation, I would require that they write a script, a shot list and complete the other basic pre-production items that are needed to make a set run smoothly. It's no fun being on a disorganized set. The fact that they don't have these things indicates disorganization and failure. You...
One step at a time. One day at a time. Fear is always of the unknown. But when you step out there, you find out there was nothing to fear in the first place. Roosevelt said it best -
