FX6: The Sony ILME-FX6V Owners Club

Started at 9am and with a fair few breaks with camera off and finished around 5.30pm. At that point there was a low battery warning but it said it had 40mins left. I ran it for another 15-20mins with no problem.

In this instance we are talking about a log image with a lut being applied at the external monitor as opposed to internal MLUTs. I absolutely agree that there's lovely images to be gotten out of most modern cameras and I spent several years doing decent (and of course not so decent) work with...

@markfpv The FX6 was balanced same as the FS7s for the duration of the shoot but certainly it's a great improvement. Even with that added functionality I'm not aware of them actually being listed as being able to capture a wider gamut or anything. I feel it's more of a quirk with the FS7 under...

The thing I'm currently shooting will be very unattractive and I won't show it to anybody. Hoping to shoot a spec commercial soon where I'll have a chance to actually make something look nice. If it comes off I'll stick it up. The thing I'd say about the camera is that there don't seem to be...

And yet I don't doubt for a second more than one person typed 'well AKSHULLY, it depends on how you were using the camera' before deleting their post....

One last thing that IDX SU-98 battery lasted FOREVER. Have ordered a second one. That will cover a full day plus overtime easy. * * Not a scientific test just based on observations.

It was a Red Bull Gaming environment so yes, lots of tacky 'event' LEDs for want of a better phrase. Exposures matched on waveform but the respective cameras' base EIs are 800/2000 respectively on paper - real world we know they are much closer. All settings were as stock as stock can be. Red...

And to expand on the day. it was an A/B between two cameras swapping between the same zoom lens and feeding the same monitor with these overhead venue lighting RGBWs in frame based on what we had seen on earlier shots, which was the FS7 having a noticeable cast in some of the shots compared to...

It's a new day and I really don't want to draw out an argument any further or even defend being irked but here we go. Sure I get that one might want to know more before deciding if the observation is of any use to them. The particulars of the environment were quite unique anyway and so not...

You know what you said. I would have been absolutely happy to discuss what my methodology was. Not happy to be lectured. You went straight to dismissal with your blanket 'it doesn't matter about abc, all that matters is xyz' comment. And then subsequently a level of patronisation above that...

I will add I just broke my toe a few hours so apologies if I'm being a bit short with people today :)

You literally just questioned my findings and said it doesn't matter what my observations were because all that matters is what can and can't be graded out in post. Happy to asked about the methodology but you went straight to 'let me tell you this...' etc etc. As for being thin-skinned, I'd...

I was just making observations on my findings on the day. Using the exact same monitor receiving a log image out of the camera. Not the same model of monitor. The exact same one. Regard or disregard/ignore those observations as you see fit. I have literally managed post-production facilities...

All cine EI. Slog3 cine. Monitoring via s709 LUT. In an environment with loads of uncontrollable highly saturated LED fixtures. Was a gaming space but I guess not unlike a bar environment. It felt like the FS7s couldn't cope with the colour (as if red or blue channels were blowing out...

Finally did my first proper job with the FX6 as work picks up. Alongside 2 x FS7s it is very clearly a better quality image. Deals with saturated colours far better too. With a Ninja V on the back for monitoring it was a great asset to the production and its quirks were minimised.

I think 'best' is highly subjective.

All I ever use is SLog3 so I'm not best placed to go into detail with all the other stuff. Will take your word for it. If I had a vlogging youtube channel it would be the shortest videos ever. 'The best shortcut to cinematic images is to learn how to light'. The end.

Isn't Cinetone supposed to be for matching colour science (as well as can be done with a different camera and sensor) to a Venice so you can use it as a B or C-cam? It seems it's mostly youtube trying to push it as something other than that. Not disputing your findings at all. I've not used...
