Can't wait to see what this camera actually ends up being.
I'm always interested in what Sony is bringing to market, even though Sony is literally just about the only brand I've never shot with.
The Sony A9 III certainly shows Sony is capable of a global shutter camera with recent tech. And...
I saw something online recently regarding insurance that rang pretty true to me.
"Insurance is a scam, a transfer of wealth from poor to rich…who can absorb risk the poor and middle class can’t."
It's certainly an interesting thought.
There's a certain level of insurance as a business owner...
Appreciate that info!
I've just been digging through old JWSound forum posts and other places online and seeing some chatter about the Alexa's having occasional issues with some Zaxcom units feeding them timecode. Some people mentioned it was an issue, others said not, etc.
I always find it...
Thanks Jim, appreciate the info!
I'm currently using ZaxConvert to convert all the files recorded on the TRXLA transmitter. It only records in the MARF format so I have to do the conversion before bringing all those files into post, as you noted. I have not looked into its capabilities beyond...
Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping some other, more sound-savvy people, would jump in with their own experiences.
Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily a "bug" either, I should have been a bit more clear there. I've read a lot of other accounts of timecode being off just a bit in post, so I...
Interesting bug I've "discovered" when working with all of these files in Davinci. It looks like although we have matching timecode on all tracks, things still aren't 100% aligned.
You can see above that although we've got all of our timecode lined up, matching 100% in Resolve, but obviously...
Very interesting approach!
I'm curious, how does shooting charts on the tv compare to something like using the Xyla 21? Wouldn't you run into issues with isolating the patches or interference from the brighter stops when shown on a TV like that?
I may have to give some of the test footage a...
Here's an interesting side effect of being on the "bleeding edge" of tech with the DCiRX. I say "bleeding edge" because I was actually advised by the guys over at Gotham Sound when I bought it that there may be quite a few firmware updates rolling out in the first few weeks, which I mentioned I...
I ran a quick walk and talk test a couple days ago just to see how everything might sync up.
I was recording into the DCiRX's micro SD a mix of the on-camera shotgun (Sennheiser MKH8060 with a dead cat), and the TRXLA2.5 with a Deity W.Lav Pro with a Bubblebee fur lav cover. You can assign...
One slightly new wrinkle with the new Zaxcom system is the ability to sync both my TRXLA2.5 transmitter and the DCiRX via timecode directly in those units.
I've always had a tentacle sync on all of my cameras when I'm rolling, but now I can ALSO sync those two things (transmitter/receiver)...
Are you seeing a similar length/height with your lavs when using the DPA microdot connectors? Perhaps they're all that long due to the needed space for the microdot connection, but it's definitely not my favorite thing about that system. That being said, it IS helpful if I want to swap the lav...
Regarding lav mics for the DCiRX:
I did receive my microdot adapter from Deity a few days ago, which allowed me to conduct my first audio test a few posts back. It's working just fine, but I'm not crazy about the additional height it adds to the lav input.
Things are just getting a tad too...
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate the feedback.
I'm trying to share some of my experiences here in hopes it might help someone else down the line with either DCiRX info or Zaxcom stuff.
To your point about JWSoundgroup (I am a member there, but I'm not sure if I've ever posted) I'm also...
The latency on some of these systems can be pretty annoying.
I used to work with the Sennheiser AVX system which had a roughly 19ms delay.
Very tiny and clever system that had some benefits, but just as many cons in my opinion.
Good question regarding the transmitter vs. the iPhone. I haven't done that direct audio comparison. I would assume they sound the same as long as nothing is clipped on the iPhone audio, but would have to check.
You can set the transmitter to start recording internally immediately upon power...
First quick test with the DCiRX and the TRXLA 2.5 transmitter. Lav mic used was a Deity W.Lav Pro. Using iPad Air for camera and capture device and using the Blackmagic camera app.
No wind protection on the mic, and it was a bit windy out. A little bit of EQ on the lav in post. Other than...
I've got a DJI Mic 2 set. It's been helpful on a few occasions actually. There has been a lot of other companies making versions of the same thing of course.
One of the big things I like about the DJI Mic 2 is the ability to hook up a lav mic to the transmitter. I'm not a fan of having the...
At the moment I just have the RF Saver pushed down as much as humanly possible onto the base of the antenna. And then I have the RF Saver Protector Locker towards the top to keep things from sliding around at all.
Just got the TRXLA2.5 in the mail today. It's a bit smaller than my old G3's in height and definitely less bulky.
Should have the new lav mic connector arriving tomorrow and can finally get to some more testing with the DCiRX and its receiver capabilities.
