I'd agree that the higher you go up in cinema camera pricing you tend to get better specs compared to lower end models. But the things you're describing like RAW or ProRes 4444 are available now even in most cheaper offerings.
I've often seen that a lot of high-end productions don't actually...
I wonder nowadays how much of an issue any camera format is for post? Is there a post-production pipeline that for some reason can't deal with files from Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Arri, Red, Nikon, etc.?
I feel like we're at a point, and have been for awhile, where even smaller mirrorless...
Yes, Sony is an absolute behemoth compared to Arri when you look at the two companies.
It certainly gives Sony a leg up when it comes to their financial resources. It's almost astonishing that Arri competes so well against them in the high end cinema market when you really think about that...
It's certainly interesting seeing some of the news out of Arri lately. I know that companies need to adapt or die as time marches on, but despite their official announcement I still wonder where their focus is moving forward.
They just recently asked for feedback on a potential iPhone app that...
I picked up the C50 from a local camera store in Oklahoma City, Bedford Camera and Video. They had to transfer the only one they had in stock from their Tulsa store over to OKC so I got pretty lucky since it seems to be backordered everywhere. Main point of this story being that I physically...
Here's a good example of what I'm talking about with the Mid49 cage. If you still own one of the older dslr cages from Wooden Camera then you kind of have a similar setup.
Of course the Mid49 C50 cage is more purpose built and allows for using the C50's top handle in one of its...
I've said this before but I'll say it again anyway because I truly believe it.
I think you need to be the change you want to see in the world.
If people want more discussion here, and it sounds like at least some do, then people need to start more threads, ask more questions, reach out for...
Yeah, I'm excited to get it out on a quick run and gun job this weekend already. It's exactly the kind of situation I picked it up for.
The wooden camera stuff is really interesting to me. They obviously priced the C50 stuff really low to compete with the other options on the market. From...
Looks like I need to eat my words here. I actually just picked up a C50 and got it in today.
Excited to run some tests alongside some of my other cameras, but for a first hands-on I absolutely love the form factor way more than I thought I would.
Thanks Rob! Yeah the gator monitor case is really only for when I'm using the larger computer monitor and doing stills only, as opposed to shooting video and needing more of a production monitor.
When I'm shooting video and I need a client monitor I'll use the OSEE 21.5 inch field monitor in...
I own the Rigidesigns Para Mount as well Rob, it's been super solid for me.
I have mine connected to Inovativ's QR Monitor Mount system. Sometimes I'll swap a larger computer monitor from my desk setup to a cart when doing stills and needing on set client review.
I just bought a pair of the Mercury's (42 and 72) during their Black Friday promo.
I had considered a lot of the cheaper anamorphic options available but ultimately went with the Mercury's because it seemed like they had a lot less CA, were a bit sharper wide open than some of the other 1.5x...
I also used to rent all of the time from Borrowlenses. They were my preferred online rental place when I used to travel all of the time for jobs and it was cheaper to rent gear from them and have it shipped ahead to my destination.
When Borrowlenses was bought by Lensrentals they had kind of...
Can confirm as well, regarding Lensrentals.
I've bought many, many lenses, accessories, used camera bodies, etc. from them over a few years now and it's all been as described/good condition. Unless it's described as "for parts" of course.
I haven't dug too deep into the digital diffusion programs like Scatter, or equivalents. My basic understanding is that it takes a lot of power windows and extra work, vs. just throwing a filter on during shooting, so I've avoided them thus far.
Anyone have more extensive experience who can...
I have done this many times on the Komodo and also other cameras. Sometimes this has been with PL mount, sometimes EF mount, sometimes RF mount.
I don't know the specifics of it impacting the camera, but to your point, often I don't have time to boot up and down.
I will use a Black Promist at low strength for a lot of interviews. Usually 1/8 and 1/4 on the A and B cam angles.
Not always, but it's nice to have the filters when there are any lights in frame or just to take the edge off, ever so slightly.
I paid $5400 for a used Komodo back in May of '23. Then I picked up various add-on's etc. to build out a working package that probably amounted to another couple of grand.
I've certainly got my use out of it in the years since, so I still consider it a good purchase. But I'm reluctant to turn...
