OTHER: What's your opinion on Kinefinity?

I see Kinefinity's market position as "a Chinese RED", they have a similar design philosophy behind them, and are targeting a similar market niche. But at a much lower price. Which certainly made it a very appealing proposition. However for this market segment there have been three big changes...

    wireless microphone

Relative to the usual normal pro grade wireless then the Sony UWP wireless is very cheap, and vastly lower priced than the higher grade wireless from even Sony themselves. And I call them "prosumer" because they're clearly that, they're products that bridge the gap between professional and...

Sound Devices 833 magic transformer bag goes from min to max.

Heh, I haven't updated my YT channel in ages and ages, am posting about once per year it seems, anywhere, here is another quick update from last night's shoot about my setup with how I had it ready to go for a quick change over for how I'm doing this weekend's shoot: Shows how you can super...

HDSLR: New MFT camera to be announced on June 5, 2024??

That could be outside their control (they're not software developers, if a product doesn't support 32bit, they can't go in and change the code!), if their existing optimized workflow doesn't support 32bit. Why chuck out all of that to use a worse workflow when they're gain no benefit from...

Canon C100 is definately looking much more competitive for a beginner filmmaker than a DSLR

If a person for whatever reasons wants to avoid a mirrorless camera (which truly do offer the best bang for buck!) or an OG BMPCC or BMD P4K (also great value!) then there are tonnes of other sub $1K options I'd much rather go with than a Canon C100mk1, such as: Panasonic AF100 / AF101 / AF105...

HDSLR: New MFT camera to be announced on June 5, 2024??

Iterative / overlapping product lines are the cheapest products to create from a R&D perspective. So from a commercial perspective, or making new models to push sales with, then it could make 100% sense what they're doing. Plus it always them to do market segmentation as well, which is also a...

HDSLR: New MFT camera to be announced on June 5, 2024??

Yup, 32bit is handy for SFX users. But that's a role that's outside what the Sound Department usually does, and normally is a role within Audio Post itself. Definitely agreeing myself with this, not upgrading to v10.01 just yet! There have already been reported some issues with it. I'd much...

Increasing spam is a bummer. Anything I/we can do to help with that?

lol what? Since when have I been a Zoom "spambot" And when did I get reprogrammed? 😆🤣 😂 (my views about Zoom today in 2024 are the same as they were in 2017) I for one worship and admire our very kind and generous future AI overlords. (please don't kill me)

HDSLR: New MFT camera to be announced on June 5, 2024??

For sure, I do agree 32bit audio is handy for OMB shooters who will also be handling Post themselves. That is the use case for 32bit, but I just wanted to highlight the broader context of the relevance of 32bit in filmmaking for the Sound Department (or rather, it's not relevant). I do think...

New RF Mount Cinema Camera coming June 5

Wait what? No anamorphic modes?? That does seem to substantially confine the C400 if it wishes to target the narrative / commercial market. I guess you can still do monitoring via instead monitors which have that functionality built in to desqueeze.

HDSLR: New MFT camera to be announced on June 5, 2024??

If you're doing the full workflow from pre to production to post, then you're not the Sound Department. Which is what I was referring to. Yeah, I can kinda see a purpose for 32bit if someone is a rushed OMB who is also doing all Post in house as well. But that's not how the Sound Dept works on...

HDSLR: New MFT camera to be announced on June 5, 2024??

It's very unreasonable to claim that Panasonic used the "cripple hammer" on the GH3. Cripple hammers only exist to product a cheaper camera from eating into the sales of a more expensive camera. Such as Canon was famous for doing. This obviously can not apply to Panasonic! The GH3 was their...

Increasing spam is a bummer. Anything I/we can do to help with that?

What you need to do Jim is design an unbreakable captcha! (unfortunately this is impossible.... or at least, impossible to design without also excluding a lot of humans too)

New RF Mount Cinema Camera coming June 5

If they're not already TCS Ltd users, then it's very unlikely. I wonder if they'll keep the C70mk2 with a S35 sensor? Become a Sound Mixer! (I joke, I joke, don't do that)

New RF Mount Cinema Camera coming June 5

I'd be shocked if Canon put NDs into a stills camera (such as the R5 mk2) before Panasonic did! And the new Panasonic GH7 didn't get NDs.

New RF Mount Cinema Camera coming June 5

For people who want to save money by not needing a gym membership any longer, as the C400 will do that for them! But a FX6 won't. Most "medium format" in the digital world is more like "cropped medium format" (just like how all DSLRs used to only be APS-C, and their digital sensors were small...

New RF Mount Cinema Camera coming June 5

Counter argument: the Sony 28-135mm is massively nicer to use with a follow focus? And also, lots of Burono shooters won't be using an all in one zoom. Fingers crossed! Would be amazing if they can settle upon "a standard".

HDSLR: New MFT camera to be announced on June 5, 2024??

I think one of the more impressive/surprising things is that there is official certification by ARRI for the LogC3 in the GH7! If anything can cause an explosion in seeing Panasonic mirrorless on film sets I work on, it would be THIS! Would instantly make the GH7 the #1 choice for crash cam /...

    MixPre Discovery

At the power end, yes it is AC. But the accessory you have on the MixPre is not AC, that's a DC connector. Sounds like maybe you just have dirty power feeding it, probably due to some old buildings that the courts are in. Get a cleaner power supply? Or honestly, just running purely on battery...
