Cannot connect HVX200 to PC at all!

Hello,

I've been trying for hours to get my Windows 7 PC to recognise my HVX. I've read everything I could find about the problem online with no luck. Whatever I do, I've been getting the messages "1394 device disconnect" or "USB device disconnect" depending which method I try. I always make sure PC mode is set to the correct device and get the same result for each. Things to note -

I've tried multiple cables and computers for both.

I tried installing this driver (top one) but no use.

The firewire DOES work when trying to capture in tape mode.

When I first tried the FW, i got a "Driver successfully installed" message, and "Removable Drive" appeared in explorer, but clicking on it just made it freeze for a few minutes then give a message saying "please insert a drive into drive H" or something similar. USB does nothing.

So it seems like something is happening, but I'm getting nowhere. If anyone can help me with this I will be forever grateful! Thank you.

Hey buddy,
So I'm not a PC guy but I do happen to own one for my motion control rig and I just ran through the steps involved to use my HVX cam. I downloaded that first driver, installed and everything went according to plan. I am however running Windows 8.1 on my old HP. But it all works. I seem to recall Barry saying that for PC you can only use USB. I didn't try the FW on mine. So long story short the driver works. That USB Device disconnect is not a sign of a problem as my HVX says that whenever I use my MAC or PC. When I hookup to my PC the computer will just recognize the P2 cards as external drives G and H. I have not installed any viewer but all the files are there. So, to sum up, driver does work, don't worry about that USB device disconnect message. To view the footage you need software capable of running MXF files. If you haven't already download the P2 Viewer software located just below the driver download. I did not bother installing any as I use my MAC for my P2 work but everything so far installs correctly and runs. Not sure what else I can tell you.

Good luck.

thank you very much for the reply and for trying out the drivers. i've come to the conclusion that the USB port must be broken. using the firewire i managed to get one of the two P2 cards to appear in explorer and view the files, although it was acting incredibly slowly and attempting to transfer a file went at 7kb a second. the P2 viewer picked up nothing. i've also read that FW is not to be used with windows so perhaps this is standard behaviour. however the USB port does absolutely nothing. my PC doesn't even make the device connect sound. if anyone thinks it may be something else i would be happy to know!

Yeah, don't use 1394 Device mode with Windows, it's unreliable and slow.

I'm sure you have configured the OTHER FUNCTIONS -> PC MODE menu to be USB Device?

Also, is the PC MODE lighting up? You can't just plug it in, you have to use the MODE button and hold it down for more than 2 seconds for it to engage PC mode. The PC lamp should light up.

Try a different cable - espcially one shorter than 9 feet. Look for bent pins in the connector. Try a different computer. If it fails on two computers with two different cables, then yeah, the port's probably bad...
