In case you missed it, the Cinematography site has a test where they compared the F35 to D21 - you can download dpx files from their site to play with.
Here I've uploaded an original D21 dpx and an F35 dpx graded to match the D21.
Which do you like better?
Thanks for making this thread - I think it was important to have the Codex discussed and demonstrated in the detailed manner it has here.
If the F35 is a Ferrari of cameras, then you're thread here helps to answer the question "What would it be like with Pirelli P Zeros?"
I have a question...
Turns out the color channels are swapped. Uncorrected, the images show brown paper and a red dust pan.
While trying to understand the problem, I opened them up in Lightwave 3D, NukeX, and Davinci Resolve with MacGregor's LUT applied. They all show a brown roll of paper and a red dust pan next...
Getting back to Alexa (kinda) and F35, there was a comparative series of tests shot at various exposures between an Arri D-21, the F35, and a Red over at cinematography's website.

No commentary that I could find, but I've enjoyed...
I wish I could make these larger.

Anyway, to evaluate the images I chose to set each grey card to 120 in Photoshop, using straight lines for the color correction in curves. Granted, you can get prettier...
Not to go too off topic, but was watching the 2011 Zacuto shootout, and had to grab frames from F35 and Kodak 5219, and see how hard to match the F35 up to it. No special mattes here. Just some adjustments in saturation and contrast, with VERY little adjustment to color. And that's with heavy...
Ugghh.
Do I feel sheepish.
Wasn't thinking straight on downsampling. If we simply stripped out every other line, 4:1:1 could only get you 4:2:2 :(
Apologies for the confusion.
Here's a graphic showing one method of how downsampling can get 4:4:4 from each source. Hope it clears up the mess...
More pictures. Borrowed from AVCHD and HDMI samples made available by y. kimura. Files can be downloaded from azurite.jp/data/blog/GH2_HDMIvsSDdirect.zip

There's a color sampling question that is still being discussed here too, so in reference to aemonk's last set of posts, I want to point to some experiments I've been playing with.
These are available at higher res with these links.
The original Checkerboard...
OK. Been doing some research on the 5 minute fan footage that farfromsubtle had uploaded earlier.
Was looking to see if I could find a pattern.
So far, not really.
I've attached screen shots that show when the footage changes cadence. Each notch is either a step forward or a step backwards, with...
Hold it - I didn't say it was true or proven!
It's just I saw artifacting in a piece I'd downloaded from here http://azurite.jp/data/blog/GH2_HDMIvsSDdirect.zip (y.kimura's link from his Vimeo video here http://vimeo.com/17727380). And while I was pixel peeping, I noticed the red edging being...
