Can anyone reccomend any third party plugin programs.....i need some artistic video effects and transitions.....

I need to get some advice on what mics would work best for recording live shows in somewhat small venues...ive never actually used a mic that wasnt on my DVX so im looking for some suggestions on the best way to go about it....any input at all would be helpful...thanks
