I shoot stills with my GH3 all the time. I doubt I will ever feel the need for a larger camera. I like the fact that it is small enough that I can carry it with me on my weekend morning runs. I work way too many hours through the week, so carry the GH3 everywhere when I'm on my own time on...
Yes, I agree. I've never seen any sign of this 'mottling' in any reasonably well exposed shot. It is not a real problem, more a curiosity. I probably never saw it in my GH1 because I never shot with very high ISO. This is just a case of too much pixel peeping, I think. :-)
As I repeat...
First, I need to say I am very pleased with my GH3. My prior camera was a hacked GH1. I've gotten some excellent stills from my GH1 by shooting raw, and never trying to push the image sensor beyond ISO 800. If I needed ISO 1600 for shots, then I knew I would lose detail and color saturation...
Wow. Thanks for the detailed look at noise in RAW images on the GH1. I just did a couple more quick tests, and, even though others may disagree, I am going to keep shooting RAW still with NR set to +2. I don't have a lot of science behind my choice, just a few experiments that make me believe...
OK: I just took two quick shots with the same film mode settings except for NR=-2 in the first and NR=+2 in the 2nd.
NR=-2: This looks like 'pre-processed' Noise to me:
NR=+2 This looks like a finer grain 'noisier' image to me? I prefer NR = +2? Yes, it is overall noisier, but, though...
