Best music to listen to while editing

So what music do you listen to while editing? Obviously, you don't listen when doing sound work, but when cutting, music can be quite an inspiration.

Well let's just cut to the chase.

1. Pink Floyd (I really don't know why, I just find it as apropriate editing music :cheesy: )

2. Rammstein (a german hard-rock band. Need I say more?)

3. R.E.M

4. Madrugada (a norwegian band)

5. uh, film scores

I usually listen to some good hip hop while I edit. I shoot alot of bike videos, so interestingly enough, that's usually the music that I am editing to anyways. Some of my favorites are Zion I, Murs, Aesop rock, Living legends, Del the Funky Homosapien and also a little pharcyde thrown in the mix....

Yeah, when working on the sound, of course you have. I'm thinking of cutting, color correction, visual effects ect.

When im sitting for like 2 hours going frame by frame cutting something out or just superrrr bored...i put suttin on..but that doesnt come around often...i just listen what im editing..and after a while i get sick of it cuz of having to repeat scenes..

but wen i do play music..

shuffle is the best..

beethoven's string quartets or the kronos quartet playing philip glass or monk, coltrane, davis, something laid back.

i got the idea from walter murch to cut dialog scenes without sound. if you know the footage well its easy to read the lips. often different line readings or even different room tones from different mic placements will make it feel like a cut doesn't work. this way you can avoid that problem and focus on the visual aspect.

When it's really monotonous, like roto work, I usually listen to something that keeps me entertained, like the Chicago Soundtrack or things like that, with a clear story progression in the song. Otherwise it's just on random, sometimes it's The Ramones and The Clash, sometimes it's Atmosphere and Aesop Rock.

I rarely listen to music when I'm actually cutting, and when I do it's usually the score I'm using.

I can't listen to music while editing - I start subconciously cutting to the beat.
Sometimes I'll toss on a song that conveys the mood of the scene I'm cutting, but never while actually editing.
For the monotonous crap, as TC says, just depends on my mood. Something that will inspire me to work harder and longer so I can eventually afford to have someone else do the monotonous work.

That's because iTunes hogs SO many cycles.

...stupid Apple, not engineering they're software to run optimally on PC's.
