HVX200 Nav Buttons Rotated?

For those who have not figured out why the navigation buttons appear to be rotated 90 degs.

Well, here's the answer - and it's not in the manual. This has got to be one of those things that takes an engineer to figure out - good thing I'm an engineer.

Open the LCD.
Rotate the LCD 180 degs CCW.
Now here's the best part - close the LCD back onto the camera.
VOILA!! The navigation buttons now make sense with respect to the viewed image.

ONLY in this configuration do the nav buttons make sense. It's got to be an engineer thing!!

I was hoping you'd found a menu setting to re-orient those suckers. They're really starting to annoy me... and I've only had this thing for 6 hours!

Sorry, no menu setting. However, if you orient the LCD as indicated it will eliminated those high levels of frustration.

1) It appears that the Design engineer has assumed that no one will watch playback or change menu settings using the viewfinder.

2) The engineer has assumed that the LCD will be oriented as I indicated to prevent damage from the LCD projecting into space and because many of the high end cameras have an LCD screen in this orientation (although those screens are info only - no pic).

3) It is assumed that the operator will be standing to the side of the camera facing the camera when doing playback or menu changes.

Not saying these are VALID assumptions, only that from an engineer's perspective this appears to be the reasoning.

After a day or so you get used to it. Don't flip the monitor because you will get used to it that way. Force yourself to learn to use it looking down 90 degrees off. Brains adapt quickly.

This is one thing that I hate from the camera. why they changed the navigation mode of the dvx100???

They are the same. The HVX are just laid flat.
They should have rotated them 90 degrees
counterclockwise. This was designed by an
engineer. They really should have gotten shooter
input on this. Between the noise issues and the wanky
controls I think a recall should be in order????

It made me crazy as well, so now I just use the remote to work the menu.

On the plus side they put the IR receiver in a better spot than on the DVX and now I find the remote works better.
