I have a dual 1.25 with 2 gigs ramb and just used lumiere hd to upload footage. Does anyone use external hard drives to hold the footage because its un editible due to the lag and im not sure if its the external hard drive or settings. any advice?

i use an external hard drive and mine lags too and i have a dual 1.8 and 2 gigs of ram. i think you need more like a dual 2.0+ with 2+ gig of ram to really make things quick. do you use final cut pro?

ya final cut pro five . hey can you give me the system settings that i need to edit the hd. everytime i drop the footage in the time line I have to render it.

i have never had a problem with my lacie 500. K well as far as final cut goes, I had Final Cut HD 4.5 but I had the academic version that I had bought a little over a year ago. I updated to hd 5 and everything looked fine until I opened the program and nothing had changed. I checked to make sure it was final cut 5 which it was. It's just not the HD version of it. So I have to render everything and sequence settings are a pain.

I have a Powerbook G4 1.33 with 2 gigs of ram and only edit on SD. I have a LaCie 250 Gig hard drive...The first one crashed in two weeks and I lost much footage and got a replacement. It still works, but I have many dropout and unplayable sequences when I edit...I will never but another LaCie drive...From now own, G-Raid.

so you edit hd in sd format? or just sd footage. explain Im completly lost and need help. Also does anyone know how important a video card is. Could my lag be because its to weak.

I was saying the same thing right up until it failed. :( Please, make sure everything that is important to you is backed up somewhere else...data recovery is EXPENSIVE! LaCie covered the drive under warranty but it didn't cover data recovery.
