BeBob Foxi for the HVX-any word?

I have the original Zoe-DVX and love your products! This new Foxi looks awesome.
Great work, Pierre. Also, thank you to Bebob for keeping the price so reasonable.

This looks like a knock out home run! How about a wireless version?

both Focus and Iris are absolut stepless. It is an analogic control and not a digital control. you have a similar feeling as with a traditional follow-focus. The only limitation is the speed of the camera internal Focus motor. the built in friction in the focus knob allows you as well to make very slow regula and precise focus "drives"
This makes sense because focus on the HVX200 is servo controlled, right? So, there is no advantage to using a real follow focus attached to the focus ring on the camera as that is merely a control interface for the servo motors, right?

It appears your $400 product just obsoleted my $1500 follow focus. Actually, improved upon it. Congratulations! I'll be getting one someday, assuming I can find a buyer for this old Chrosziel paperweight...

Had a chance to use the Varizoom on a production today. Eh. Not too impressed. The connectors are not the way they should have been, and the throw on the wheel is pretty short, it's not all that easy to fine-adjust focus. And pressing on the cable could cause anomolous behavior, so -- I had ordered a Varizoom, but I think I'll cancel that and wait to see what else comes down the pike. This Bebob looks good, I like the idea of having the zoom & s/s on one and focus/iris on the other.

That's always been my experience, which is why I've been using the Zoe from day one on all my DVX's.

To be honnest I could see two advantages for the Chrosziel Follow Focus: the maximum speed is the speed of your hand turning the knob and not the maximum speed of the motor built into the camera. Secondly, As long I know you have the possibility on the Chrosziel to put Extra mechanical End-Stop (but I´m not sure regarding the DV Version of the FF). With Foxi you only have the two mechanical End-stop of the Knob, that´s it (270 ° angle of rotation max).

We have make already wireless versions of our lanc remote. We showed it to a couple of people, and they were not really interested. OF course a combined Foxi/Zoe dvx could give a quite interesting lens control for steadicam,...

Pierre,
Your very last coment beat me to my request / observations.

This looks FANTASTIC for Steadicam! I mean really good. A good friend of mine who's also an opertor has 2 or 3 Zoes and he loves them. His ears perked when I mention FOXI.

He was hoping for a Iris/Zoom/StartStop version. He doesn't pull focus that often (and most operators have a focus puller for this anyway) but loves to ride the iris as well as zoom. - I think either an all in one, or just an Iris/Zoom/SS would be fantastic.

Personally I'd probably prefer a Zoom/Focus/SS version.

I'm not sure which would be the most popular.

You also mentioned wireless. That would be fantastic! It would be great to have wireless FF for this smaller cameras.
HUGE bonus points if you could make a wireless reciver light enough to mount on the Steadicam Merlin!

Any sugestions where I might find one to try out in Europe? (Finland or Netherlands)

- Mikko

Pierre,

Thanks for your prompt responses. This does look like a great solution. How long does it take to get a product after an order is placed since this is a relatively new item.

Barry, you are a man who gets many perks. I can't wait to read your review. I have a shoot April 7th where I will need something. I was planning on the varizoom but will hold off until the master has given us the 411.

Looks like some great 3rd party solutions here. I want this over a focus control as I'll use this a lot more often for sure.

Justyn,

I guess that the first shipment for the US market has been sold already. The second shipment is leaving by the end of next week, middle of the week after. I suppose that some units of the second batch are still free. The third shipment for the US will leave in the second half of March. Then 16x9inc should be able to keep units on Stock. So for your shoot on April 7th it shouldn´t be a problem. It at that time it seems to be short, don´t hesitate to contact me directly (pierre@bebob.de) and I will find a way to help you.

Mikko,

contact the company Qualitron who is our distributor in Finland (pekko.larjo@qualitron.fi)
they will get full infos about Foxi by middle of next week. because the HVX200 will start in Europe by End of MArch, we didn´t start the marketing activities up to now

Pierre... that's great news. I'm also looking forward to getting Barry's review. I think he'd be an excellent spokesman if he likes your product. I'm also so glad that we have options for this camera already. Nothing worse than paying 400 bucks for soemthing that you aren't happy with.

I really like that plastic arrows option and the tape on the focus control. A lot of my shoots are corporate talking head stuff and I could really see a lot of useful ways to help me when I either fall asleep during the job.. or have too many beers during lunch and have to rely on my notes.. and focus marks...

Ya got to love the kind of first hand responses we get on this site. Thanks Pierre.......

One last thing. Is there a projected price for a two piece kit.. zoom and the focus? I'd like to get both and finally be able to put on my 2nd tripod arm and use it more like a studio setup.. Now that would really rock as I'm getting the Marshall monitor and already have the Dell..

Finally the camera windfalls are coming... I should have it here within 2 weeks... (holding breath till then)...

we didn´t have this option up to now but it is a good idea. i´ll check what we could offer as a package

Yes Pierre, I'd be interested in both.. especially sine sometimes I will run two cameras simultaneously... and having handle grip controls for atleast one of the cameras then I'm able to pull off both pretty well. Extension cables would be possible too right? what type would I need?

Question: Can I use this on a jib with a standard 1/8" audio extension cable? (I'm assuming the Foxi cable isn't long enough to run the length of the jib, but is there any reason why it won't work with an extension?)

Owen. I would think so. I know I bought an extension cable for my varizoom for just this purpose. I really can't wait to get my HVX and then this foxi will be one of the first things I get. I don't think I'm going to be getting a follow focus for a while.

Pierre, is there a HVX model of your zoom controller out, or planned? Or is the previous DVX version fully funtional for the HVX?

Thanks!

an additionnal zoom controller will be issued at NAB indeed. We call it the zoe-dvxl. It looks the same as the actual range of Zoe´s. the electronic is new and can drive as well Lanc cameras as HVX/DVX cameras.

We thaught that it would be interesting fro people (rental,...) that have several model of cameras and doesn´t want to buy a new zoom remote everytime.

zoe-dvl and zoe-dvx will continue to exist as they are
