My first test footage isn't working too well...

My first test footage is here:

http://www.desktopgamer.com/DVXTest.wmv
It's only 6MB. It 24P captured into Adobe Premiere.

In the Video monitor box it looks like it has issues, but the timeline video box it looks fine. Then I export it and I get this.

Are my project settings not correct for 24P? What is wrong? I exported it in different formats including MPEG 4 and I still get this problem.

Thank!

It looks like it's interlaced, and the stuttering, I don't know what that's from. I'm sorry, I can't help you much here.

Are you using Premiere Pro 1.5? Tell us a little more about your settings.

The clip looks similar to a problem I had with 1.5 where my 24p footage wouldn't play correctly in a 29.97 timeline.

My settings are the exact settings you get when you make a new project and select
DV NSTC - Standard Settings - 48 khz
I didn't touch anything after that.

Now I exported it is a very small .mov and it plays fine. But I'd like to get it working normally with WMV and MPEG4 also.

have you tried using different tapes? lt looks like a head or tape problem, since its that drastic.

The original captured footage looks perfect, and when I play it in .mov format it looks fine also.

Should I redownload some Codecs or something?

Premiere Pro 1.5.
Is there something I need to specify in the project settings for footage shot in 24P to export properly for anything besides .mov? I left it on the standard settings.

I had a problem with 1.5 doing the same thing you're talking about. All my 24p footage would open up 23.97. This worked fine in a 24p timeline...but not in a 29.97 timeline. It would stutter just like your test footage.

I'm assuming that since you say you're using the standard settings...that you are in a 29.97 timeline. I believe this is a bug with Pro 1.5. If you shot your footage in 24p...use the 24p preset.

I am now using Pro 2.0 and all my footage plays fine.

Right. That's what I'm wondering. Where is the 24P preset? I don't see that anywhere when making a new project.

Or do I drop the framerate down to 25 (its now on PAL,the only other setting in the Timebase setting) and in the Fields category simply select No Fields (Progressive Scan)??
If I click De-Interlace footage, the Progressive Scan gets greyed out. Should I click this or not?

Maybe you need to check Adobe.com for the 1.5 update. I know that my 1.5 had a 24P preset when starting a new project. Once you get this you'll be able to edit your 24p footage with no further adjustments necessary. You just can't mix 60i and 24p footage in the same timeline.

I think it's the 1.5.1 update.
