Wow I didn't know all this. A friend of mine purchased the HVX. I'm going to forward this thread so he can find out if he has one of the Defective models. Does anybody know which dealers have the new models or not?

LMAO, bunch of rabid hyenas! I saw the thread title and just knew it was gonna have a million posts in a heartbeat.

Your inner child is laughing but your inner parent is ashame of you guys for this. :)

Also, there is a chance of a "clicking relapse" which could occur after you send it it for repair.

The odds on this are 50/50 and depends on which rod stablizer they have to replace.

But from what I understand the odds are pretty much in favor of Rod# RTM122PG being the original problem. The recall notice was for that rod, specifically.
you're right though - if another rod were to fail then you're odds are still 50/50 on RTM122PG failing in the near future (even after sending it in).

There was a lot of confusion at first, people thought they had sent cams in and the same rods were failing. That wasn't the case. The core of the problem is in the manually installed rod #RTM122PG.

Models came out on the East Coast first, so those are the ones that are mainly effected. But there have been reports out on the west coast (LA, etc) of this same thing happening. Panasonic tried to squelch rumors of this before the release, but with all the blogs people have nowadays (not to mention dvxuser.com) it's hard to keep it under wraps.

I would really advise calling Panasonic on this one. You don't want to mess around with that kind of investment. And I echo what others have said. Please do NOT turn it on.

From Panasonic's HVX200 Service site:

RECALL NOTICE - 02/13/06

Luis, you're correct. That definitely sounds like the problem. The hitch is that Panasonic has switched to a titanium alloy for the rod (#RTM122PG), and the new part is $900. There is a backlog at the Nagoya-Prefecture factory, and I was told the wait-list is 10 months. He may be able to buy a refurbished rod for $500, but the problem may reappear after some time.

Ouch, I didn't realize it was so expensive.
It's almost too bad they moved to a lead free design.
The rods for the DVX100, and 100A were a fraction of that to replace.

oh what cruel cruel bastards you all are

Hey. these guys are just trying to help! Geez! :furious3: Nothing makes me more angry than people knocking down other people who are being helpful. This isn't one of those boards where we jerk around the new people you know. This ia a place for professionals to share ideas and information.

Yeah, definitely get rid of any camera with a rattle noise. In fact, if it's in otherwise good condition I might be able to do you the favor of taking it off your hands (obviously for parts purposes:) ), but don't expect much in $s.

LOL, why just have fun when you can try for some profit. :)

I have a spare #RTM122PG rod I can let go for a mere $650 plus shipping. Just put the money in my Paypal account and I will have it sent out tomorrow.

(Oh god I am going to hell for that)

I dont normally skim thru the HVX threads since I cant afford one. ESPECIALLY not after having to pay for the repair cost of the clunk my 100A showed up with! But I just couldnt believe the thread title, though.... Panny didnt fix this horrendous design problem before marketing the HVX?

Mine cost a bundle to fix cuz I'm no good with blow torches. I cant IMAGINE what the repair will cost you on the HVX.

Sorry dude! But good luck.

oh, and welcome to DVXuser. (even if the "user" part of that wont be hitting you for a while)

:(

  ...Mine's supposed to be here tomorrow by Fedex. Should I be able to hear the rattle loud enough through the box before I open it? I could just refuse it I suppose. What if ya can't hear it through the box? Maybe I should shake it really vigorously...

...damn i'm nervous...
