I got my HD100 yesterday. The camera rocks!

Folks

Is it possible to use an Angenieux lens on the 100? Say an 9.5-57mm f1.6 Angenieux
Will it work for back focus when in a C mount.

hi there
I just got a new jvc 101 and a had some problems with focusing. even though i adjusted the back focus, the lens seems to have problems -with low light and iris wide open- to keep the focus, when I zoom in and than back. the wide shots seems to be out of focus....
did anybody have similar experience?
it only happens with a open iris.

plus, the focus assist seems not to be always excately. the high-lightened lines, especially in a wide angel shot, indicate a bigger depth of field, that there really is. this syndrom happens again, especially with iris wide open.

so I ask again, if anybody made similar experiences?

Of course. #1 is that if you're having the problem you describe with holding focus throughout zoom range, then you did not set backfocus correctly.

#2 is that Focus Assist is only a tool. Just because one sees a red line doesn't mean it's truly in focus...it's a guide. You have to gain some experience to know in which situations it is not telling the truth...like full wide.

Back focus...

Back focus...

I went to the JVC head quarter in Switzerland and set the backfocus, still I have the same problems. two questions:
1. How do YOU set the back focus?
2. Do you set the back focus every day before shooting, temperature changes that could influence the settings?
3. Which lens did you work with?
4. Did u shoot on hdv 720?
5. Which clip oin your page is shot with the jvc, they look awesome...!!

Thanks. Alex

ok, I will do so.

but still?
did you set your back focus after each day new, because I've heard that people do so...
It's still a very delicate thing to set the back focus correctly.
And did you shoot with 720p progressiv or sd?

You only need to setup backfocus under the follwing conditions:

1. New camera (You are now just mounting the lens)

2. You removed the lens

3. Someone dicked around with the knob that holds backfocus.

Use the chart I sent you and follow the setting backfocus instructions in the HD100
user manual.

No, once you set backfocus correctly, you are done. If it appears that backfocus is still out through the zoom range of the lens, I'm not sure what the issue is. Regardless, under this condition, I would bring it into a JVC service center to have them take a look.

I've shot enough material with soft wide shots that I check backfocus extremely often. I'm not sure if I have put too light of force to the retaining ring of the mount, or it's temperature swings, or what, but it seems to go south very often, so I check it any time the camera has been transported.

Micheal, I received my HD100 from B&H last Thursday, and it has the same problems as yours, at 0db also. I love the camera but the SSE is intolerable, it's the worse I've seen, and I know a few other HD100 owners and its nothing like theirs. I the sales manager from my area and she told me the best thing to do was open a Perfect Experience Claim. Is that how they are taking care of yours ?
Thing is I am leaving town for 2 weeks as of Tuesday and am using th cam. I love the cam, but this sitaution blows.

I had an experience like this with armato's when i bought a jvc dv500 a few years ago. the salesman assured me he wouldn't ship one of the older units that was prone to the infamous head clog error. what did he ship? an older unit with 17 hours of head time that had been returned, fixed, and repacked. B stock!! i
B & H has this stellar rep, but #1 their prices are nothing special, #2 they're rude #3 the motto seems to be the same as armato's: sell sell sell at all costs, tell the customer what he wants to hear, close the deal. the attitude at evs is much better. B$H is overrated.

Wow were in the same boat. B&H is sending out these SSE cams. Well it's not good.

The HD100 is such an awesome camera too! Why let something retarded as SSE do this. If it means better sync circuits are needed, they should put them in the HD100 and byte the financial bullet in the long run it will sell tons, and the HD100 is going to last for years in the market place.....

Becuase it's an awesome camera.

We also had 9 lit pixels at 3db. I have shot with 4 XLH1's at 18db , not a single pixel issue. However the HD100 allows you to map them out at 0db. Whic is cool..

We won't proceed until JVC says something or I see with my naked eye's SSE is gone all the way up to 18db.

I want the HD100 in the production chain here. Lets see what happens!

Maybe it's a conspiracy, if you click the Email me a better price at B&H, you get a nice discount and SSE. I only had the camera a day before I took it on its first shoot and it was the client who saw the split screen. But the client not being a techie thought it was the monitor, so when I looked I knew what it was, and the scene was very well light, and the camera was warmed up etc... So when he left the room I panned around and noticed it get worse, get better, iris up it's there. etc... I told the client it was an ac cable that made the monitor look split and for the rest of the shoot I had to work around it very carefully. I hope the replacement one doesent do me wrong.

We have both Cameras, that's why!

<<<<Sure I lost some *episodes* of Pappas' life !
I was sure you've bought an Xlh1! After the famous clip in dvinfo where you see all the prints of cameras' footage? That footage was disquieting, just reminded me a "snuff movie" or something alike...
Are you really Pappas? I was waiting for the second part of footage, I had fear you just killed yourself in that strange *snuff* like-video!
My imagination is so scary! >>>

I bought some last night from an outfit in LA. 23 bucks and you get 3300mAh

Michael,
I just received two of these batteries from calcellular.

They don't seem to charge using the charger that comes with the HD100.
Have you tried yours?

The charge status LED never starts to blink.

I left it in over night and the LED was not lit when I checked.

It appears that somehow the battery contacts may not contact the charger?

I installed the battery in the HD100 and it came on, but after 5 minutes, it had a low battery warning.

Any ideas?

Steve

This info might help you. I bought an energizer battery thats a replacement for the JVC supplied battery. I placed it on the charger that comes with the HD100 and the green charge light didnt come out, I left it overnight and still no charge. Then I compared the new battery with the ones shipped with the camera and noticed that the one with the camera has a NOTCH on the side that will allow a small switch on the charger to "go through". without this notch the switch is depressed and thus cancelling the charge. I took my cutter and CUT OUT a notch and viola! The battery charged!

Hope this helps.

teddybear,
You're the man bro !
That was it. I just cut notches on both of my new batteries.

Granted, it looks like a hack job, but they now charge !

Michael, if you plan on using those batteries, this is important info to know .
Not bad for $20.00 each !

I made now excatly the same experiances with the back focus. Just today I realised that the backfocus moved, although I adjusted it yesterday correclty. may be it's because we've got a lot of temerature changing at the time in switzerland. inside 21, outside 0 degree, that means room temperature and freezing outside. However I' will check the backfocus before every shooting day

Hey Michael, glad to see you got the HD100.
If you've followed my discussion over at dvinfo you saw that we had an SSE occurence.
Ken and Dwayne are on this issue and will certainly take care of you (if they haven't already)
The Paolo settings (just the color not the gamma, black or detail) are definitely the truest and punchiest I've gotten out of it...very warm and filmic.
I've got a combination scene using -1 Master Black, +2 Black Stretch, Minimum Detail, flat Gamma that works beautifully.
It's become our utility scene.
