PLYWOOD SKATER Finished

With patience, sandpaper and several layers of paint.

And oh yes, I can still hear the voice of scrubbing in my head

wow badlaa!
it looked like aluminium. how was your wheel lock different? i noticed how
the lock was situated in a different place. good work!

Impressive work Badlaa! Three thumbs up :-)

How'd you carve out the pieces so nicely? With a pad saw and a large hole-drill?

Tony

I only used an decent bandsaw and jigsaw for the holes.

The wheel locks are very simple: just mounted long nuts into the wood. Then you just screw the bolts until they touch the surface of the wheel mount.

TL - please put your third thumb away...

Well done, badlaa, the finishing work looks very professional. Where'd you get the graphics for your radius clock?

Holy....words I can't repeat, Badlaa....that's an amazing piece of work. It inspires me to build one, but just like other sports and technical things I think you and everybody else makes it seem easy and doable, but probably not for me. :(

amazing work!!!!!!

Badlaa,

Wow. That looks great. And the photography is qite nice too.

Excellent job. Is she running as smooth as she looks?

rook: check out the second post on page 20 and you'll see. I'll post some new footage with the finished skater soon.

Looks pretty amazing. Are all three wheels equidistant from the place the camera is mounted?

I printed out the "actual size" tiffs and cut the bits. Then I realized that I was short on copy of the wheel mount cover.

I printed the extra at a friends house and realized that it was a completely different size (bigger).

WTF?

I didn't scale to page anywhere....

They were both printed in the same way just on different printers....

Help.

Rook,

check in the printer options after you press "control+P" . see if it is "print as in document" or maybe it's in "resize to width or height" mode.

Teddybear,

Thanks. I just did a re-buy of my main piece of PLY and printed out of illustrator.

For some reason the c60 software resizes without letting you decide.

Anoying but not a huge loss.

Hopefully I can post pics soon.

I just got done with my sanding....no fun at all. I was debating about the wheel locks but I think I might try to mimic something like badlaa's. jeez badlaa I think the award for sexy beast skate dolly of the year goes to you. That thing doesn't even look like its made of wood.

Badlaa,

Please share with us the lock mechanism. It looks great.

Slinks,

My apprehension why I didn't go with this route is; if not done properly, a pressure type braking mechanism pressing on the sides of the wheel mount could do the following.
1. Split the plywood layers apart.
2. distort the smoothness of the sides of the wheel mount.
These are some of my concerns and why i went for a pressure applied from the top pressing down on the wheel mount.
A plywood's weakness is on the sides with its layers exposed.

Rook, same thing happened to me. I went into the printer settings and found that an HP printer was resizing the image to fit in the printable area. I used an Epson printer and it came out at the proper scale.

mjmcneese2,

Glad I'm not the only one.

Any tips for getting the axle holes straight without a press?
