New York City DVX user meeting

What if this NYC DVX Group was less about doing projects and group activites, and was more of a monthly or weekly meetup where people could meet others who want to trade crew work on eachothers films, or where lighting designers can meet filmmakers who need lighting design, and where people could just connect? With the occasional monthly screening, maybe a yearly contest..It seems that if it's so group oriented, it might fizzle after the first few meetings. Why not just a place where people can talk DVX in person and share footage and develop working relationships? Like a real life DVXUSER.com where you can actually start working with the people you interact with? I don't mean to sound negative, I just wonder how realistic it is for a bunch of people with jobs and such to get together and do all these group projects...

that said..i'm down to meetup with any nyc dvx heads!

Those are good question and I am sure each us in here interested in this group expect to network and hopefully collaborate on projects together. For instance, straight our of the first DVX meeting, I worked in a music video with one other fellow who was there and the project aired a week after it was completed. I am sure that more experiences like that one will be born as a result of a community like the one you just described. So you are right in that. Should it be exclusive or limited to that? well thats another story.

I agree with Roman. We're really not sure what direction this group is going to take. Anything you've seen in previous posts are only suggestions. I'm hoping we have a rather broad spectrum of different people at the meeting (Working professionals, newbies, everyone in between...) so we're going to have to figure out some ways for everyone to get what they want out of the meetings. I don't think we're setting anything up to be TOO group-oriented. We just have to have some sort of group-identity, something that will make us come together and keep coming together. This first meeting, EVERYONE should bring their ideas for how the group is going to work, and we will figure out what to do.

Just checking, there's no date for the first meeting yet right? I didn't get an email regarding a meeting..., and If there was a date set I'm pretty sure it would be posted in this forum..

I haven't heard anything either. So either no email has been sent out, capitalP, or you and I are definitely off the list :)

Great news! B&H confirmed to host our meetings and give us a tours of their store. Just be patient, Shawn will be posting the date and time shortly.

There is a conference call with the organizers to set date/time and a brief agenda tonight, and we'll post the results of that call. we even have a banner.

...punk college kid film students are great for getting lunch, rounding up aftershoot "party guests" and other assorted "mission critical" details in film. Just kidding. All are welcome to the first meeting.
