Pixel Count of CCDs for the last time maybe?

Could be 960 x 540 as Steve Mullen suggested so you would get 1920 x 1080 if it was pixel shifted both directions.

My idea would make for a better native 720 solution although the horizontal would suffer being only 480 native.

I'm pretty sure that spatial offset gets you only 50% more image, not 100%.

The HDV cameras CCDs being 960 x 1080 pixel shifted only horizontally would give you 1440 x 1080 with a 50% pixel shift.

If the HVX is being pixel shifted 50% in both directions that would give you a sensor size of 853.33 x 720 to get to 1280 x 1080 which is the highest resolution of DVCProHD. Thats not bad but still a ways off from 1440 x 1080 and would enforce the idea this is a 720p camera.

But, since the HVX doesn't seem to have any appreciable gain in 1080 vs. 720 then lets figure the HXV is being pixel shifted to 1280 x 720 @ 50% then you get a sensor size of 853.33 x 480 which would be a normal SD sensor using the full overscan area horizontally which when pixel shifted 50% in both directions gives you 1280 x 720.

One more thing, if we take 1280 and divide by 3 and multiply by 2 to get an exact 2/3 dimension of 853.33333333333333333333333333333 and then divide that by 480 we get 1.7777777777777777777777777777778 which is EXACTLY a 16:9 aspect ratio. If you divide 16 by 9 you get the exact same number.

It doesn't really matter but it's fun to guess.

Yeah?! And the PAL countries version?!

...

PAL HDTV is still 1280x720 or 1920x1080 correct? It doesn't matter what size you start with only the size you end up with.

Wrong. It matters, of course. 1440x1080 will have better quality than NTSC countries. Not so noticeable but really higher. Sorry NTSC guys.. But you can shoot 25p if you wish..

No you're wrong. The resolutions will be the same for HDTV in all countries. Sort of the reason for standards. The only difference will be in framerates due to the differences in 50Hz in PAL countries vs. the 60Hz power standard in NTSC countries. Also I think NTSC countries get the better end of the deal with 24p and 60p compared to 25p and 50p.

Also 1440 x 1080 is HDV resolution which you won't get with HVX anyway so what are you talking about?

Cheers,
JS

No, I'm not.. But please don't insist. As myself about almost anyone here, you don't know my background..

Here maybe you're right! Lol

Not the only one.

The difference is not night and day but to PAL countries there isn't the pulldown hassle. Otherwise, because and according the next paragraph, in the 60Hz version the bit rate@1080/24p is 80mbps and in the 50Hz version to 1080/25p is 100mbps.

It's talking about of the DVCPRO-HD codec nature: 1440x1080@50Hz version and 1280x1080@60Hz version.

Hope this helps.

Actually Sanjin, you may actually find out from us, the manufacturer.

Best,

If Panasonic does publish the number, it will be interesting to see if Steve or I came close to the correct answer. On the other hand, we could look stupid if the number is way off from what we guessed. :)

For many it may prove to be a blessing to put an end to the endless guessing as to what the number could be......

I do have a pretty conservative opinion that Panasonic will ever publish tha numbers like "Active sensor pixels: XXXX x XXXX", or... etc.

Only guys like Tore B. Nordahl from Nordahl.tv LLC or Juan P. Pertierra from Andromeda could do it maybe if they would open the HVX and count the pixels using probably a microscope or something similar. Than we could know for sure the native CCD size from HVX. Than maybe Panasonic would respond with a real CCD info, etc. Who knows? It's about to wait and see.

It's here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=438157&postcount=69

The native pixel count is just one of many other numbers that are related to the image quality.
As you can see when watching some andromada-footage, the process of downconverting and compression has a much bigger impact on the final image than some pixels. But nobody asked how exactly the HVX handles the 1,7 GBit/s stream and how the DVCPro codec really works.

For sure you will get all that explained soon from Tore B. Nordahl.

The Tore B. Nordahl's Panasonic HVX report release is scheduled for February 28.

Stay tuned.
