So - What is the status of the IDX battery deal?

Does anyone know if the certificates are being mailed out yet (Rush - are you out there brother), or when there are likely to be sent?

I have been lucky up 'til now - I haven't needed to shoot. But the time is quickly approaching when I will need that battery - the offer was one of the reasons I bought the JVC to begin with.

Gettin' worried -

John

PS - Jlames - keep up the good work!

Thanks and we will. Let me know what date you shoot and if it gets close w/ no resolve by IDX, I will send you one of ours. You can replace it when yours arrive. PM me your address if necessary and I'll Fed Ex it out.

I'm relatively new to the internet (being an older guy for this board - 38), and I've been a member of DVXUSER and dvinfo for about six months now.

Again and again I am surprised with the dedication, kindness, and knowlege of people I've "met" on these boards.

From Stephen and Nate, to Barry and Jonathan (amoung countless others), I've always recieved positive, helpfull feedback meant to educate, inform and aid.

And when you're trying to make a movie for less than a hundred thousand dollars that will (like it or not) be competing w/ hundred million dollar films, you need all the help you can get!

Thank you Jonathan very much for your kind offer. We should be starting production in mid-March, barring any disasters (I'll pm you w/my info).

John

PS - Seriously guys, how cool is that? :)

I'm a little confused on the whole EVS/IDX thing. Does EVS not know when the certs are coming in? Are they not offering any insight or even checking into this for everyone? Have they not got them in before? Do they have a contact to check on the status for people?

I ended up going to B&H and used the cert on their site. Although not the most helpful and patient people, B&H did have that available. Why is it that EVS is doing things differently?

I sent my cert/info out last Thursday, and according to IDX, should have it within a week from JVC.

Just trying to understand what's going on with EVS on this.

Thanks.

First, JDV's not such an "old guy" for this Board. I'm 48 going on 25. While all the world seemingly is losing all respect for anyone over the age of 35 including the entertainment industry, this Board reveres it because the younger generation realizes the experience "Baby Boomers" and others have to share is invaluable to them as they grow in the industry. Further Baby Boomers relish the perspective and energy that youth brings to the table. I see it every day and constantly hear that "technology knows no age" as one of my guys is eager to remind me. We all share a common bond and, at least in my circle, depend on each other. Remember, as an Executive Producer, it's typically age that gives us the money to green light projects and that's where I am. And as a Producer, I roll up my sleeves and keep things together so the younger guys and girls in camera, animation and editing can bring my and our vision to life. Work ethic knows no age barrier in film and I'm blessed to have a team that, while we typically don't listen to each other's i-Pods, each own one.

Second, as to EVS, as far as I know, they've been on the phone w/ JVC every day but with no luck. I don't know what they can do except call and I'm not making excuses for them but simply saying I don't really know what they could do other than keep the pressure on JVC or IDX or which ever company or individual is causing the problem. What I do know is that, as I've always said, it's my guys and girls who get things done. As it turns out, I have a partner and a respected independent Producer in his own right, Mike Pellegatti, in whose hands I trust all things. He's had a long-standing relationship with Eric Rosenberg, a JVC executive who's responsible for all things West Coast as I understand it. It was Mike who placed a call to Eric who was instrumental in getting power to me...OK to Illinois or wherever the ice storm stranded the IDX kits. For the life of me, when Marion called me, I couldn't figure out how she got my home phone but didn't think of that while I was in trouble. Eric played a huge part in getting this straightened out for us and I wanted to acknowledge Eric's efforts. Mike e-mailed,

"After you called me and I called JVC to report the snafu, you might give a thanks to the other folks at JVC such as Eric Rosenberg for personally calling me the day everything was going south. You have referred to him as a friend but in all reality he was a business acquaintance, however, after the few times he has gone to bat for me with JVC issues, I consider him a friend. He called me out of genuine concern for his product, the product's reputation, and the reputation of JVC customer service. A call from him to Marion was instrumental in the initial contact and making the ball roll, but it's nice to know that the head honchos, such as Eric, also roll their sleeves up and get involved. A big thanks and a tip of the hat to JVC.

Thanks

Mike Pellegatti

So there you have it. We were shooting...yes, in between the rain...pick up shots with Home Depot cords running from everywhere all weekend and we're still in Winchester, California at a great location called the Wild West Arena. If any of you out there want a great location for a western, the people are the most accommodating I've ever worked with. Anyway, I'll check when we get home today on the status of the IDX batteries and let you all know if there's closure to my saga and any light at the end of the tunnel for the whole program. It's the whole program that's at issue here because, on this Board at least, when one suffers, we all suffer AND we all respond with whatever we can do to help.

I love reading things like this first thing in the morning.
Just thought it was worth repeating.

Good luck with your respective projects, Jonathan and JDV.

Jonathan,
You are a great asset to this community.
No doubt you are a proffesional who's been is similar
situations and understands how bad it can be when things go wrong in
the field. Actually, my understanding is you're currently in that situation.

I've been following your recent threads. I could not believe how rude the lady from IDX was to you. I'd be very surprised if she still holds a job there.

I'm waiting for my IDX certificate, and my dealer has not been able to give me an idea how long it will take. Fortunately, I won't need it for another month or so.

Steve

Thank you for your kind words. I'm exceedingly proud of this industry and the vast majority of the people in it. We have our problems, of course, but it's like the old adage goes, "Sure he's a pain in the arse but he's my pain in the arse."We can say all we want about our own family but let an outsider screw with us and, well, you see what happens! This Board makes a difference. We make a difference but only when we all stick together. I'm proud to know all of you which is why I'm a firm believer in making to all the local events at which members will be and to attend distant events when I'm in the various cities hosting them. Putting names to faces in invaluable.

Let me state for the record that I am 47 going on 19.

And I regard 48 as being really old.

Thank you.

I'm sorry. I couldn't quite read what you wrote. My bifocals were hidden by my walker which was resting aginst my Ortho bed.

Very funny guys...and girl. You know some people say this business will age you faster than any other business in the world. For me, hopefully as you can see from my avatar which really is me, that's simply not true. If anything, the daily influx of fresh perspectives, the new technologies, the exchange of information and ideas through this Board and others and a real family atmosphere on most sets, even when things are going to heck in a handbag so to speak, keeps me as young as my crew around me. For all of the ups and downs, I really can't imagine doing anything else.

I'm here bro, and I am watching over a good friend, jlames, but as far as commenting here on the forum, I have to keep my mouth shut for many reasons...

I spoke with JVC head on Friday (I was filming on-location at the time, so my resources were limited), got them his shipping address and phone, and JVC sent some battery kits out to him that day.

As far as cert's, the EVS office manager is in charge, and I was told on Friday that he was mailing them out as he gets them, but that due to family illness, he has been out of the office intermittently. I will confirm on Tuesday what certs have gone out (EVS was closed today).

Rush is way, way too modest. He spent a good hour and a half on the phone with JVC on his "day off" that Friday when he should have been tending to his own family affairs and production matters going to bat for me and really for all of us with JVC. I respected Rush's request that day that I not discuss his involvement and wouldn't even be posting this out of regard for our agreement but since he copped to watching over me, let me tell you all, many posts ago I extolled the virtues of having a reliable, honest, local retailer with whom you can do business. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Internet deals and the like but the proof in the pudding so to speak is when the pudding hits the fan as it did for us. EVS was first to loan us 4 JVC batteries to use in conjunction with shore power cords to get us through the first day and then a single battery back plate that I could use with the two IDX E10s I bought from EVS stock. While IDX was good enough to loan us ample batteries for our desert shoot for a week in the hopes that we'd write up a good report for them (which we did but only because as I've said a dozen times, the batteries are great, the company or more precisely its employees need, in my humble opinion, to be fired or at the very least, re-trained or re-assigned) they were sure quick on the trigger to fire off 2 phone calls and 3 e-mails the very next day wondering when they could have their batteries, charger and plates back effectively leaving us with no power which is how this whole thing got started.

There's simply no replacing a reliable, honest, well-educated, local supply house and its employees and Rush has been all over this thing from the start. When I said above and beyond the call of duty for JVC in rectifying the issue, let me tell you, Rush headed that list and now that he's publicly admitted his involvement, THANK YOU, Rush. JVC and EVS have our business and I mean all of it. (and yeah, I hold 'em to their price match guarantee!!!)

Are we supposed to download the certificate from B&H? (That's where we purchased our HD100).

We have a shoot next friday (march 3) and we had to buy two extra little standard batteries that it came with because of the sucky power the hd100 comes with.

So if i download the certificate from the website, is that valid? can i simply send that one out?

:: efrain

Yes. Download and print the certificte from the BH website, complete it, cut out the serial number form the camera's box and then put all that in an envelope together with the BH sales receipt and send it all in. I've heard anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks though for receipt of batteries. We just picked up our final 2 cameras from EVS today and JVC sent us all five of the battery kits that arrived on Monday. Finally we have our completed order of 5 new systems.
