First feature film shot with HVX200

"Producer Ethan Marten: Even the most gripping script and best planning will amount to little if the final product doesn't look the part. When it came to the format and technology the Star Circle team would use, they had an ace up their sleeve. The new AG-HVX-200 HD camera by Panasonic is the first of its kind in the world. There's a lot to love: DVC PRO HD recording format; P2 solid state recording media; handheld form factor; Varicam capabilities which mirror those of cameras in the $70,000 and up price range.”

I hope not many people buy these articles.

Hmmmm...
Then we wonder why people get obsessed with pixel count and other tech issues.

I agree. If things like resolution didn't matter, why not shoot on VHS?

Anyway, this article is pro HVX200. It sounds like they were impressed with the camera. I would love to see their trailer. Do they have one?

The operative word is PRODUCER- they say anything to make their film stand out, even if it is as trite as the camera that it was shot on. I'll bet you at least $2 that this guy at one point has said something to the effect, " the equipment is secondary, what is really important is a solid script and ample preparedness". The B.S. flows when producers are interviewed- ALWAYS.

Hey, if you can get a little free press for your film by pimping Panasonic for a moment, why not? If I had a feature in production on that camera, or the XL-H1, or whatever, I'd be doing the same thing.

It is funny when you hear a producer and it all sounds like a brochure. If you were a producer and it was your film, would you care about pushing a new camera in preorder/first delivery phase?

I wouldn't say this thing is a feature btw. It is a short of some sort. The script is 20 thin pages.

"Feature film" - I hope a project like this at least makes it to DVD. Maybe Panasonic will use clips in the next HVX demo release. I doubt this "film" will ever see any silver halide.

Actually, he said something very similar to that at the bottom of the article
:)

That's a lot of setups... but I've seen people shooting in all manner of weird methods. I've seen this one. Plant the camera in one spot, shoot your wide shot from there, then a medium closeup from the same spot.. punch in for side profile singles of each and viola... 4 shots that'll look just like blah.. blah.. blah... Not saying that's the case with this, but I've seen it happen....

Boy how times change. I remember when I was younger we used to call films that were over 70 minutes 'features'. Anything under that we would call 'short films' or even just 'shorts'. Those were the days. But it was a different time. Way back in ... 2005. :D

That's nothing more than bohemian filmmaker disclaimerbabble in today's world...

Yeah, I think calling it a feature film was a bit much. It was neither a feature nor a film. But still cool that they did it. :D

Yes...The times are a changing. 20 page rough ideas are now called "feature shooting scripts"? Shorts are now called features? Nobody knows what a "script breakdown" is ? DP's that have never shot "film", over even know what lighting ratios are.......let alone know how to light? Knowbody goes to film school anymore? The times are a changing. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!?

Film School is a prerequisite for being a filmmaker? Darn, I guess I'll just have to call myself a moviemaker!

..there are lot of Directors in this book I'm reading who have never gone to film school.... I guess I'm going to have to inform them that they're not really filmmakers (or is it moviemakers when we shoot on tape and edit on a computer?).

...and worst of all, DP's that have never shot "film"!! My goodness, that's almost as bad a someone proclaiming themselves a musician but has never cut an album on vinyl, or recorded to tape! how could you possibly be a musician if you've never cut some wax! ;-)

Well, I really do hope you were kidding because those are some of the most absurd claims I've ever heard.
