Need to vent!!! GRRRRRRRRRR

The problem with this, is if you don't use a register, or watch your account like a hawk

So, WATCH YOUR ACCOUNT LIKE A HAWK, especially if you don’t have that much IN it.

Guys, seriously . . .

You’re talking about things which are completely within your own control. It’s entirely your own responsibility to watch your account balance and make sure that you have sufficient funds in your account to cover all of your drafts. If someone doesn’t cash a check for months, that’s not the bank’s fault if you didn’t account for it.

Likewise, if you have an automatic debit, and that date falls on a non-business day, the draft will come out on the last business day beforehand. You should have sufficient money in your account at least two days ahead of time; that’s standard business practice. Bank of America pays its interest on the last business day if the actual date is a non-business day. They also pay their employees the same way if payday does.

I’m sorry; I just can’t join in this pile-on.

But I’m also sorry for misreading what you said, Coffee. If they indeed took it out a day before the contracted date and it didn't fall on a weekend, like described above, then get down to your branch and make noise in person.

Jubal, I do watch my account like a hawk, AND keep a register. Haven't had a bounce in forever. You're absolutely right that the money was spent, and when it comes out shouldn't make a difference.

What I think is shady about BOA, maybe other banks, Iunno, is the way they process the information. If you have plenty of money this will never affect you, BUT, BOA does their very best, to ensure, that if you do slip up, you get screwed as much as possible.

BOA has programs in place, specifically to take advantage of you, if a mistake is made, or a draft you aren't expecting happens, etc.

Batch processing does its best to hide from you the charges going through on your account.

Processing highest to lowest dollar amounts ensures that if you are going to overdraft, as many charges as possible will overdraft, and charge you for it.

An example of highest to lowest:

lets say you have 100$ in your account.

You charge the following amounts:
$95
$4
$3 <-- you will overdraft on this charge, $34
$2 <-- will cost you $34 more. $68 total
$1 <-- will cost you $34 more. $102 total
$1 <-- will cost you $34 more. $136 total
$1 <-- will cost you $34 more. $170 total
$1 <-- will cost you $34 more. $204 total

You only drafted $108 but you're going to pay more than $100 for that 8 dollars. I understand that you should watch and you're right, you should. But BOA makes a fortune. A FORTUNE!!!!!!!! on peoples mistakes. Just like blockbuster could charge you $100 for a 17$ movie, its just robbery. Its kicking people when theyre down, and I don't care what you say, I think its wrong.

I thought Bank of America was good? They sure make it seem like they are "Mr. Nice Guy Bank* on TV with all their *Free Checking, Free ATM, Free online billpay, Free MicCheck, TV commercials!!*

I hate BOA. I never had the overdraft problem but on more than one occasion they put my pay checks on hold telling me that it would be 2 weeks for them to check and make sure they were legit. @sses... I was getting a steady check from the same place WTF. So now I am with NetBank.
