BlackMagic Full-Frame 6K pocket cinema camera

So, my Sony a7iv has a RS measured at 26.8ms by cined: https://www.cined.com/sony-a7-iv-lab-test-rolling-shutter-dynamic-range-and-latitude/

I don't frequently notice it, although I'm usually doing slow movements with it and usually on a gimbal, tripod, or slider. If I examine the footage carefully I think I can detect the influence of a slow rolling shutter but not in a way that a viewer will see.

So, I'm not crazy about the a7iv readout speed but it's certainly usable. And the 4k60 crop is obviously fine.

The BM 6k FF can shoot 36fps in 3:2 6k open gate, so the roling shutter must be 27.8 ms or faster in that mode.

If I were to buy this camera, the mode I would most commonly use is 6k 17:9 which can shoot up to 48fps and therefore has a rolling shutter of 20.8ms or faster in that mode.

So, while these are not impressive numbers, I think it's a totally usable camera. My feeling is 30+ms is a no-go for me. I'd like to have <25ms and obviously the faster the better. I think it sort of depends on how many whip pans you do. The biggest problem of course is handheld jitters. If you bump the camera then rolling shutter is going to be apparent right quick.

I'm spoiled by the a7siii which is like 8ms...

Blackmagic have confirmed that the internal gyro stabilization feature included in the 7.9 camera update, (for all models in the pocket camera series 4K and 6K) corrects for rolling shutter artifacts caused by camera shake. It can do this because along with the gyro data, the readout speed of the sensor is known to DaVinci Resolve. It cannot correct for RS artifacts caused by subject motions. It cannot be used in combination with lens OIS.

I have been filming my series on Phantom Canyon which is a scenic 30 mile route that is part of the Gold Belt Scenic Byway, following the route of the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad built in 1894 as a connection from Florence to the goldfields of Cripple Creek and Victor. It is a maintained road but unpaved and narrow, that gradually increases in elevation from 5,500 ft to 9,500 ft with many narrow spots wide enough for only 1 car, several rough-hewn, one-way tunnels, narrow gaps gouged through the mountainside with 500 foot drops, elevated old steel and wooden bridges and a distinctive curved bridge. Vehicles longer than 25 ft are prohibited but it's passable by any higher clearance 2WD vehicle. Nearly impossible to adequately document, the many twists and curves yield only about 1.5 hours of daily prime light viewing to express its wide range of plants and wildlife in their natural setting. The drive is about 2 hours but I can cut the time in half on my motorcycle. I carry my original BMD Pocket 6K, (the older original, not the new FF version,) in my backpack.

Drive safely, dude. Also, when do we get to see the edit?

Looks like the 6K FF is delayed. According to BH it's now out Nov 13. Hearing rumors they're having QC issues which wouldn't be unusual with BM...

It might be delayed but B&H dates aren't always related because they can constantly change depending on the orders and shipments.
