Final Cut Pro for iPad

Personally this isn’t something I care much about. I don’t need to edit on an iPad, especially when it requires an M1 iPad. But what gets my attention more is that it’s a subscription model at $4.99 a month and $49.99 a year. This makes me wonder if the desktop version will also be switching to a subscription model.

I am currently not an FCPX editor, though I have been considering the purchase. I’m currently trying to transition from Premiere Pro to Resolve, but FCPX has been something I would also consider having as well. Just not as a sub.

What do you think will happen here?

The subscription model(s) could move over to desktop versions at some point, but not sure it matters much when the prices are already so low for some of this stuff.

I said like 5 years ago Apple will have FCP for iPhones with AI doing video editing of clips in the background and will have multiple edits by lunch.

So...who's using the DVX100 still?

My thoughts exactly

I've always thought that a touch interface for editing clips and placing in a timeline could be nice, if implemented correctly. But I'm not a fan of subscription software. I'm fine not getting infinite updates for free or having the absolute latest version, as long as the software continues to work on a system that meets the requirements when it was released.

It could be nice, but I think that the majority of my commands will be better served by a mouse and keyboard. There are things that a touchscreen could do really well, like transform controls and manipulating sliders and color wheels, etc. But I think I would definitely want that to be a supplement to my primary controls. What I want is my macbook pro but I can reach up and slide things around on the screen when I feel like it.

The reason Apple has been able to charge so little for FCPX is because they use it to attract people to buy their hardware where they make most of their money. Where as Adobe is purely a software company they have to make their money on subscriptions and licenses.

People have been concerned for many years Apple would go to a subscription model because that's were everyone is today. Luckily they haven't yet. I hope they don't I still would be ok if it was low like $5/month. Davinci Resolve is the last haven and I will only go there as a last resort if need be. No need to cross that bridge.

Eventually they might offer a "pro" version with cloud storage and access media resources for a subscription fee.

Blackmagic already has a very stripped down (and reasonable) subscription service as part of their cloud collaboration workflow: $5/month per project library.

Yeah, like connect an iPad via sidecar, or whatever it’s called, and use it as a control surface/2nd screen.

Hmm I wonder if that's already possible. I was talking about a touchscreen MBP, though. I've heard speculation that Apple doesn't want to make such a product because they'd rather sell you both an MBP and an iPad. For me, personally, I prefer having an all-in-one computer without needing to connect peripherals like an iPad on a stand. But I'm a mobile editor and do most of my work on our couches or in the kitchen, etc. I'm sure that people with a proper workstation set-up wouldn't mind. But I can't imagine sitting at a desk for the duration of time I edit, which is a lot
