Letus35 Extreme vs. Cinemek G35 all set to buy just not sure which!

Go for it man. You won't regret it. Plus the build is hand down the best out there. I have had other adapters in my hands and the G35 is built like a tank...very solid and very very high quality. Jon cut no corners when making the G35.

thanks for the feedback JLF.

so regarding the G35, i don't see any rail system to support it on their site -- how are you guys using it with the HPX170?

I think they have rails in development... but for right now, there's no support system so you use it in a configuration where a lot of weight is on the camera's threads... or using a 3rd party solution for rails and lens mounts.

k, thanks. one more question:
the G35 says it takes Nikon F Mount, so would this work??

basically just looking for a solid 50mm lens, and want to make sure i get the right one.
i've seen AF Mount lenses on eBay -- would those work??
sorry so naive. i did read the sticky.....

use this site as a reference. Ken Rockwell has reviews for almost every Nikon lens imaginable.

Hello
I ordered the G35 and it was shipped to me yesterday, I am looking forward to trying it out the coming week. As far as rails and support is concerned, has anybody any suggestion on the best solution? I recall reading that the G35 has a thread at the bottom of the unit to attach it to its support, if I order the zacuto base plate and roads (or similar) how can I fix the G35 on it?

thanks for your advice

Get some pictures of the camera with the G35 unit on, I'd like to see how the whole things looks overall.

I own a HPX170 and a G35. I have used the letus on the HPX170 and there is no comparison to the G35 in my opinion. Yes you lose more light with the G35, but if you have lights and if the look and quality of the image is the most important to you like it is to me then the G35 is your best bet.

That's exciting news Dana! Post a picture of your rig. Love the footage btw.

Why are G35 users not posting pictures of their rigs like other adapter users? I'd like to see these guys flaunt their new adapters like the Brevis and Letus guys.

i use my bolex base plate and lens support rig. super heavy duty. I don't like all these little baseplates a lot of these companies make for these cameras. i am out of town but i will post a picture later this week. i suggest that people using these adapters get film camera baseplates and lens supports. its worth the money and will support your rig the best.

Well, but do you have any night time city footage? What seemed to be magic hour (judging by the sky brightness in the background) looked like night in the shadows in your test footage. I can only imagine what real night footage looks like. Probably very very dark. No matter how big is your light package, unless you are Hollywood you can't light a whole city block so being able to film with available city lights is a good thing for those who shoot a lot at night. It seems this is impossible with the G35.

i've been looking for night shots as well, without the assistance of personal lighting setups. Just to get an idea.

Yeah, but based on what I've been hearing about the adapter I don't think the chances are any good. It seems totally useless at night or indoors unless you got a ton of lights.

Interesting no one talks about the Brevis. I have one, have been shooting regularly and am finishing up a project now (with flip). Its absolutely fantastic. The most impressive thing is the light loss, which is barely noticeable from the stock lens. It can-t go over 120 shutter speed, but this is probablyu the maximum you would use in normal shooting situations to avoid image detail loss. I'll see (no promises) if I take some night footage from over here with it for you guys to see.

I don't know where you got the impression that indoors the G35 is totally useless unless you flood everything with light. I have used it know for a few weeks and my light kit is a four tube fluorescent high frequency panel; two Arri 650 Watt projectors and a 800 Watt redhead. I rarely use them all at the same time and if you work a bit on the cinematography and the composition of your images the results are great.

Well, how about some HD footage or at least HD grabs? What camera do you have?

When you say r 120 shutter speed do you really mean shutter speed as in 1/120 or do you mean a 120° shutter (angle)?
Between the brevis and letus I prefer the letus extreme. Sharper and seems to have better low light performance too.

nantnee,

I'll have night exteriors included when I post about my G35. probably net week.
