Brand Spankin Music Vid - Good I swear

Just found out that Michel Gondry is going to be one of the judges for the competition this was entered in... unbelievable! Just to have something I did in front of his eyes in an honor, for sure...

thanks gabriel... no the video was shot at 36 fps natively so it would be slow motion in Final Cut on a 24fps sequence

Yep they were, I just inverted one side to be the mirror image and colorized em.... some people don't like them, or at least the fact that they are brightly colored, what do you guys think?

I think they look fantastic...I would not change the color. It gives it a different feeling. I have a question, what is that filter that makes the lights have a blue light flare? I'm new to this whole editing thing. THX.

It's a simple filter from MagicBullet Looks, I believe it was in the Music Video presets and I just adjusted the parameters until I was happy with the look...

Just a little update to everyone, I did end up winning the competition! There was some stiff comp. As far as Michel Gondry goes though, unfortunately he became too busy to judge after all and had his apprentice judge in his place, which is still good in my books as he may have showed it to Michel after all. The other judges were Sook-Yin Lee, Canadians probably know her but she is an actress/director/ and former much music host, very cool. And the other judge was Micah Meisner who has directed videos for Kos, Metric, and Broken Social Scene. So to be picked by these guys means a lot to me. And thanks again to everyone for the kind words on this thread!

What about cutting it so that you don't see the water balloons, you just see the explosion of colour, thats what I was really after...

I thought it was cool. The brightly colored ink is somewhat out of place perhaps. Maybe if it matched some reoccurring item on the artist? Just a thought. I liked the affect though. The slow motion brings a great feel too.

Well actually we used a dolly that had big thick tires on it, no track. There was a little wobble in some shots that I smoothed out using FCP's SmoothCam Plugin. It's amazing what that thing can achieve, but if I were to do it again, I probably would use track, or a steadicam rig of some sort.

You have to speed it up by a certain percentage depending on what frame rate you shoot at. Barry sent me a link to page on here that he did containing every frame rate you could shoot at, and what percentage you would have to speed up/slow down the song for playback to accommodate it. I think if you search slow mo audio playback it should come up.
