Not sure if this is allowed (probably not) but I wanted to share my first music video with you guys here on DVX100 board. I did shoot it on HVX but a couple inserts were DVX. But I feel like this board is my home, haha, this is where a learned so much and I value everyones feed back, so check it out, and let me know what you think, good or bad...

yes it is very much so allowed but maybe this should be more in the HVX section ratherr than dvx.

Very nice looking video, very nice colour grading, but it kinda got boring for me after a while with the shots held so long and lack of variety in shots. I'm guessing this is the look u wanted to go with the mood of the song anyway, but i wasnt a fan.
You know what would have been nice...u could still hold those long shots but put very quick flashes of another shot in the areas that the beat sometimes goes fast.
Would be interested to know what were the few DVX shots in this.

Yeah I posted it in the HVX screen grab forum but it doesn't seem like it's as active as this one... no discussions. As far as the shots I was consciously going for the long takes as a kind of antithesis to most music videos. I felt it fit the sort of brooding, melancholy pace of the track like you mentioned. I was worried about people getting bored so that's why I added the breaking and the colored smoke as points of visual interest. The DVX shot the balloons breaking and the three beginning establishing shots. I will mention one thing I have a problem with is the lens flare falling on top of her face. I would have really liked it to disappear behind her like it should but I felt it would be too much work.

lol on the "too much work "...i feel u. those establishing shots were DVX..nice. Goodjob. Maybe we or I am 2 programmed now to be used to many different shots in music video...but i do agree it went with the song. the very quick flashes i mentioned that could go when the beat fast at times could represent the confusion and rapid pace of relationships as well as to break up the visual monotony (thats how u spell it ??)...just at times.

I understand the want to post it here cuz i do think this forum is more active for feedback cuz these guys are pretty decent when it comes to that and those DVX shots REPRESENT!! :D so its all good

Overall i think its a good vid though.

edit: i didnt mention. killer location. i always like an indoor carpark

haha, yeah too much work, I should mention it was for a contest so there was a deadline, not that I'm lazy... well a little. Yeah I was thinking of going more frenetic a la Tony Scott towards the end but I was afraid of that style being too passe these days. Maybe I'll try it in an alternate cut and see what people think. And we were gonna shoot in an alley originally but it was constant rain with no let up all day on the only possible shoot day so that was a last minute change/scramble, which i think worked just as well if not better.

Just found out that Michel Gondry is going to be one of the judges for the competition this was entered in... unbelievable! Just to have something I did in front of his eyes in an honor, so freaking excited!

I liked the slow pace of the video, it fit the song. The things I didn't like were the purple ink drops and the magic bullet light streaks, the video didn't need them. Great job, 1 question, how did you tempo sync the slomo, what fps did you shoot at and how fast did you speed up the song?

I shot the video at 36fps in native format to DTE, and sped up the song by 148%. It's actually 148 point something but I don't remember off hand. Barry actually answered my question on how to do that right away with a chart thats somewhere on these boards, I have the link on another computer, I'll post it later tonight.

Just a little update to everyone, I did end up winning the competition! There was some stiff comp. As far as Michel Gondry goes though, unfortunately he became too busy to judge after all and had his apprentice judge in his place, which is still good in my books as he may have showed it to Michel after all. The other judges were Sook-Yin Lee, Canadians probably know her but she is an actress/director/ and former much music host, very cool. And the other judge was Micah Meisner who has directed videos for Kos, Metric, and Broken Social Scene. So to be picked by these guys means a lot to me. And thanks again to everyone for the kind words on this thread!

No sorry those parts were shot with the HVX, I specified earlier in the thread the DVX footage and that was shot at 60 I believe...
