Very cool! I really liked the style of this. It was refreshing to watch. I especially liked the water dripping on him in the shower. It looked awesome, it was kind of moving, but not moving at the same time haha. Very entertaining overall. Good work

So I've been showing off your film to everybody and all reviews are great! Also I've yet to show it to anybody who hasn't been humming the song to themselves minutes later. Again just a great job man!

I didnt notice your post on the first page about needing a disclaimer until now... and I would say absolutely NOT. A lot of the fun in watching the film is figuring out what is happening, why the frame size is so different and wondering how you did it.

Favorite thing about the film: I love the look and style of the film. I've always wanted to do a film with a vertical aspect ratio and it's really cool to see one that has it.

What would have made me like the film more: I'm not sure at all. I don't completely understand the storyline because I was paying close attention to technical things, but I'll come back and rewatch to understand the story better once I get through with the rest of the films.

Favorite shot: Dolly in at 1:57. Awesome.

Awesome. Really liked the look of this one. And the aspect ratio? Fantastic. And used well, I think.

The song fit the mood well, but I didn't love the song altogether.

I think I would have like this short better if the art direction was a little more extreme. I liked the simplicity and the all white stuff, but I think for it to really work, everything needed to be more cohesive. The coffee cup, for instance, would have been better in black or white or a non-translucent primary color. The coffee maker, similarly, seemed too busy aside everything else. Same thing with his tie. Anyway, maybe I'm way off with all this, but I think that kind of stuff would have made the film that much better.

Really enjoyed this one. One of my favorite of the fest.

At times I wanted to say the effects were too much but overall and considering the surreal quality of your short I think they were fine. Good job.
After reading your explanation in post #2 on this thread I now understand why you had that surreal quality. Very interesting read. Again, I think your short ventured furthest out of the box in terms of technical filmmaking. You got extra style points from me because of that.

Thanks Drew. Hope to see more from you soon. The story... I like to call it an Interpretive piece, and hope it's not too abstract. I guess the technical/artistic side does overshadow the story at times, but I definitely have my version of what is going on, and left some room for other interpretations.

That dolly shot you mention is made up of only 5 frames, stretched by twixtor into about 100 frames. Originally, It was a lot longer dolly move, and with a ton of gear on the side that I was going to erase later on. Luckily, a friend saw it and suggested I start it later. I think it worked a lot better to connect with the character, plus i didn't have to erase any light stands and stuff!

Color me flabbergasted. Totally amazing.

This makes me realize what an amateur putz I really am in comparison.

Thanks. You should see my first films though. You're way ahead of me there! Keep at it, and thanks for the comments.

yeah, we're the only two to do music videos. Cool man. About the art direction- we shot it intending to blow out all the white sheets so that you would only see the actors and key props, but I didn't like the look of it in the end. So I went with the sheets, as if one of the characters, (the living one) is repainting and covered everything with drop cloths. The colors with the mug and other things were supposed to tie the objects to the painting in the end. I'm not sure if it works? Thanks for the comments!

Yeah. As I said, the guy who popularized this technique of shooting still frames and chaining them together has the disclaimer at the beginning, to let people know that their display is Not messed up, it's supposed to be jumpy. (He didn't use Twixtor to smooth it out and interpolate frames) I decided not to, to see if it held up. Thanks for the style points. :Drogar-Love(DBG):

Awesome awesome work man. The aspect ratio was beautiful. It tells a very simple story. The acting, lighting, colors...all of it was great. I was truly impressed. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hey buddy, now that we're winding down the ____ ____ of the first round I just wanted to wish you the best of luck! I'm sure you're gonna do great man, I've watched yours like 5 times and it's still just as enjoyable as the first time.

Very interesting approach on this fest man.

I liked the shots, and the coloring.

I was at first saying, "What the hell is going on" haha.

How'd you do those effects?

Robbie

What an ABSOLUTE Visual mind screw this was! Wow. I'm sure like everyone else, when I first opened it & saw the widescreen tipped on end, I'm thinking "What the....?". Then when I saw the DVXuser on end, I knew I was screwed, and I downloaded a bad video that's since been fixed & uploaded.

But, for whatever reason I gave it a few more seconds & began to watch. I could tell immediately that what you did was on purpose, and probably HIGHLY experimental, visually. Which was cool ... pretty ground breaking stuff, at least as far as these fests are concerned. The shower scene with the frozen water bending around him was MIND BLOWINGLY cool!!!

All in all, while I had a LITTLE trouble following the story and 'getting it', I'm pretty sure I got the end message, which was about a fantasy girl/life he had, which he'd full never experience until he was freed from this life of sterile whites, and released into the imagination of colors? Am I close, lol?

Anyway, I highly dug the experimental trip you took me on, thank you. Wow.

this film is great! it is so out there. so imaginative! congrats on pulling this off! i got no idea how you did this, i will have to read through this thread when i get the time. you guys are fun!

ha- i did read norm's post above and i liked his interpretation of the flick.

congrats on a cool arse film!!

Thanks Derek. I think we make a great team and I can't wait till the next one. Already brainstorming ideas.

Thanks Robbie. Check out the second post and BTS video to see how we did it.

I think you're right on track with your interpretation of the story. Glad we could take you on a little mind-trip. :) Thanks!

:dankk2: Except for the vertical frame, which I've never seen before, most of the other ideas are "borrowed" from somewhere. Even ideas I thought were original, I've since discovered others that did it first. Is there really such a thing as a new idea anymore? I'm always searching...

i do believe there is always a new way to do something that hasn't been done that hasn't been seen by anyone anywhere. seeing your work, me thinks it will find you, so don't look too hard, it's prob right there. how zen, now i will get lost, eh, go to work...

Simply amazing. Great looking little movie! It's so unique in comparison to all the other films in the fest I've seen.

Great stuff!!
