Newb question on transfering to tape

Hi, got a wedding coming up, they said they just want the tapes, here's how Im guessing how I would do that...

Transport all the footage to my NLE timeline (in this case premiere). Then I choose export to tape, that's it right?

you could do that although I tried once and had some trouble..... I found it easier to just but the footage to DVD or even drop it on a DVD (or 2) If someone else is editing it as long as the have the raw footage that enough for them, When you put it to tape you loose some resolution and it becomes HDV.

Make sure they know what format they will be getting it in. Otherwise, they may be expecting HDV and not be prepared for editing. I'd tell them that you are using a solid state camcorder, ask them to buy a portable hard drive and that you will deliver the raw footage to them on that.

This is kind of low budge so I don't they could spring for a new harddrive,

let's say I'm able to get it onto tape, let's say I shot it at 1920x1080 24p, if I exported it to tape what would it be when it's captured by them? HDV m2t 29.98 by any chance?

I think you need to get some clarification on this. Personally what I would do.. if this becomes a PITA.. would be to play the clips back from the camera and then capture the downrezzed SD from the cameras composite ports and capture this to a DV cam or something like that. This way... they get it on a DV tape that they could probably handle and you don't have to go through too much hassell.

I would say to charge for your time and tapes and all that.. otherwise you are doing more work. Got to get paid for doing work that's above and beyond what is contracted. Your other option is to sell them your SD cards and be done with it..

No. 1: Find out who will be doing the diting. Ask that person what format he/she can handle.

No. 2: For safety, either back up the original AVCHD yourself, or save the card unused until you're sure everything is finished and archived.

No. 3: If the format they can handle is not raw AVCHD, do the transfer yourself to the format they can handle.

Charge for all this if you can and want to, but don't do less. A wedding is a unique important moment, and this situation sounds like it has a lot of potential for problems; in your place I'd either not take the gig or do all I could to insure that they have useful footage in the end. Even if someone says they can handle the footage, keep a copy until you're sure they haven't accidentally erased it. Make it clear to your client that your footage is in a cutting-edge format that's not supported perfectly by all NLEs, and may be difficult to edit at this point, especially for someone unfamiliar with the HMC.
