How do I get dvd content into a FCP timeline?

I've been given 5 dvd's and need to extract various scenes for an actor's reel.

Thnx.

MPEG StreamClip is your new best friend. I recommend not clipping with it though as the Multiplexed audio can go out of synch. Just convert the whole thing then edit in FCP.

You can get handbrake and convert to a bunch of formats for editing. If the DVD isn't encrypted, you can just copy the files to your HDD, and change the .vob extensions to .mpeg and it should load into your time line.

MPEG StreamClip is probably the most popular option. You should have no problem exporting the clips to a DV 480i .mov file.

MPEG StreamClip uses some of the FCP codecs, so if you don't have all of FCP installed you might be able to get it to work.

This all of course is if you don't have copy protected DVDs, I don't think MPEG does anything w/ encription (I could be wrong).

I really think that Final Cut Studio should have something built in to pull DVDs directly into FCP,
maybe they'll put it in FCS3, or maybe Apple keep acting like Apple.

Import non commercial VOB files

Export to a QT format that is consistent with the easy set up you will be using in FCP
