Hi everybody My name is Alex and I am new here. I got my Nikon D90 about a week ago and I am planning on doing a bunch of projects using AE and AP. I will be honest and say that I am a newbie when it comes to lenses.. so my question is am I ok with my 18-105 VR lense kit? Or do i buy a Nikkor 50mm f/2 lense for my video projects or just use both? What are the uses of the Nikkor 50mm lense compared to the 105mm VR lense? Thanks for your time I hope you all could help me out so far I love! My D90 :2vrolijk_08:

It's on ebay right now it's called the "Nikon 50mm 1.8 Sharp Compact Prime Lens 50 f1.8 FE FM F

Just making sure what you think before I place a bid :)

oh~ and just to add I found a Magnicon 28mm f/2.8 lense too but I never heard of Magnicon.. Should I stay away from this brand?

the first one is a series e, it's ai-s and although it's a cheaper version of the nikkor it's optically comparable. this particular one is plastic though, look for the earlier one that's at least part metal. you can tell them apart from the aluminum ring on the better one. the series e 50mm is one of the smallest lenses there are, which is nice sometimes. i use one myself and it was the main lens on my feature.

the second one looks like a vivitar and a quick google search says that's probably what it is. it's probably an ok lens.

yeah the series e is nikons budget lens, they're not very good. yeah the other looks like a re-badged vivitar. vivitar had some good lenses, they were manufactured by different companies so the quality varies. I'd stick with ai or ai-s lenses the f/1.8 50mm is a bargain.
