New Sony Cameras NAB 2009

Any news or rumors about what new cameras Sony will be announcing at NAB this year? They announced the EX1 in 2007, and the EX3 in 2008, so I'm hoping there will be another addition for 2009. Hopefully something that addresses existing issues like rolling shutter effects and IR contamination.

Their pre-NAB press releases are on their site, and there aren't any indications of new prosumer camcorders or EX updates listed in those press releases.

I did see some pre-NAB releases, but several news sources (like Broadcasting and Cable Magazine) are reporting that Sony is saving most of the major product announcements for the show itself. So I was just wondering if anybody heard any leaks.

not of cameas, all I have seen so far is of new LCDs, viewfinders and a new XDCAM deck...

If it´s on NAB I will write about it on my blog. Will be there the whole week, flying in from Sweden to cover the event =)

And during the NAB show the blogs will be written in English so no worries for you non-swedes

I don't remember them being known about at all until NAB and the word hit the streets very close to opening day so I'd say there is still hope at the moment but still, don't hold your breath and you won't be dissapointed.

What I have heard is that the EX5 is on it's way.
Specs are:
50mhz - 4 2 2 recording
Removable solid state Harddisk of 120 Gb
Next to Expresscardslot 2 SD slots
Better low light performance
3 ND filters (we now have 2)
IR problem solved
On/off switch problem solved
Better schoulder mount balance
Stock lens with 20x zoom

Sorry guys, I was just dreaming(those of you who cannot appreciate this, sorry, sorry)

Yeah I agree Panasonic really does listen. They have given us a $10,000 1/3 inch camera with expensive P2 media, short record times, in the standard shoulder rig design at a time when lower cost longer record time media has been proven possible, a growing acceptance of modular design has taken hold, and with chip sizes getting larger for much lower costs and everyone fussing with 35mm adapters. Glad they are listening.

Touche. But I want to point out that Panasonic also has a 3CCD prosumer camera that records to cheap SDHC media, which is more than Sony can say. And the price of SxS cards are basically the same as P2 cards. It's just that some clever users have found a workaround for a lot less.

Let's get creative and break away from this 35mm adapter nonsense. Write a good story and film it using your tools to the best of your ability. You got an iris, you got lights ... or use the natural light. Why wreak your optics with a stupid non essential adapter? Who cares about some phony 35mm "look", create your own look. Be different, until the sheep start following you!

Just having some fun sumfun. Its all good. I am brand agnostic and have read alot of bashing of Sony products. They have messed up on some things big time but the EX cameras are not one of them in my opinion. Workarounds with the the media isn't the whole issue. The fact that a 16gb sxs card get you an hour of record time instead of 16 minutes ( at high res) is huge in the tapeless format world. I would have gotten the camera with media workarounds or not.

The thing about those consumer cams is it's 11mb/s AVCHD, not 35mb/s MPEG2 nor can consumer cams shoot overcranked footage (85mb/s), so this is an apples to oranges comparison.

I don't buy the same quality at half bit rate figure thrown around at all, especially with current MPG4 encoders which are really in their infancy.

The HMC150 is burdened by the same thing that the HVX is. 960x540 pixel shifted chips. You're fighting for detail with those cams. For now CMOS is the way to go for the price point. RED knows this and so does Panasonic.

I bougth the Viewsonic N1630w TV 16" HDTV and I am using it as a alternative HD monitor mainly indoors, but outdoors only need a powerconverter of say 100Watts.
The picture is quite good. The price is around 200 dollars and it is NTSC/PAL and Secam.
