Can Fujinon 17x7.6 CAC lens be used on non P2 cameras?

Can the lens specifically marketed with the HPX-500 ( the Fujinon 17X7.6 CAC lens) be used on other cameras, Like the Sony PDW-700 for example? This lens can only be bought as part of a HPX-500 package.

Thanks,

Ed

Yes it can be used, but the CAC function will not function as that is a part of the camera. The lens is sold separately.

Best,

Jan: This brings up an interesting question - If you read my previous post (Fujininon horror story) you know that, as an old film guy, I prefer to not use the zoom motor on my lens, and instead use my Aaton grip with a cable that I had custom made at Abels in Burbank...

Unfortunately, when the motor is removed, the CAC will not work because it doesn't recognize the lens unless it's plugged in..

Now, since, as you say, the CAC is a function of the camera, why is there not some way to manually set it in the camera without having to plug in the zoom motor?

The lens has the lookup table. The camera has the algorithm. It is a handshake between the two.

Jan

also from what I understand the camera needs to know the zoom (and maybe focus) to perform the correction - this information is only available is the lens is connected
