hvx200 footage output movie theater premiere

I'm about to have a premiere for my movie at the local movie theater. They have a digitial projector on a 2k projection system and a 4k.

Anyways I'm having trouble or just confused on what format would look the best on a big screen.

They said they can play dvds or I could hook up a blue ray player(compenant cables)

I shot the film on the hvx200 1080i 24pa. I use sony vegas for the timeline. Using raylight for dropping into vegas.

I have a couple questions if you guys could help me out.

1. First how come my magic bullet doesn't seem to render the colors or presets I use. The footage always comes out raw even though I added the plug-in? is it because it is in HD? because magic bullet will work when I do a mpeg2 dv render. So im confused on this. Anyone know whats going on?

2. Also I don't want to render my crisp footage to a dvd(mpeg2 nstc) quality becuase I think it isn't going to hold up when the theater blows it up on the screen. Also why is the mpeg2 DV quality so crappy when I play it full screen?
I can notice digital noise alot more and it just doesnt look that good, so I can't think about it playing at the theater. You know?

What is the best render or compressions for a full length movie? anyone have suggestions?

I've tried wmv- 8 mbps hd 1920/1080 23 frames which looks good( but magic bullet wont work)

Mpeg2 hd render but dvd arc. just wants to recompress it back to dv.

So I was thinking about throwing a render on my ps3 and then taking that to the theater and just play the film off my the ps3 harddrive. but if I go this route i'm going to have to render my film twice because I'm going to render the film in 10min parts. But if I'm not putting it on a dvd(dvd studio pro, I could put the parts in the video track) I'm going to have to sync up the sound track in another timeline then re-render the movie with the sound. Would that lose quality?

I'm just confused on the best route to go.

Anybody had a premiere at a real movie theater and would like to share their output settings?

I also feel like the hvx200 is a awesome camera but my footage at DV quality isnt that good. why is the hvx200 so noisy? It always looks awesome in my preview on the timeline but when I play it on my widescreen moniter, I get kind of disappointed.

I was thinking about buying neat video before I rendered my movie, but alot of times the characters look plastic, but if I back it down on the reduction it kind of looks blurry to me. So I think I'm just going to leave it how it is.

Any advice on any of this would be very helpful!

This process is hard and confusing at times because I don't have anyone to ask for help, you know?

thanks alot and once again DVXUSER WILL SAVE ME!!!

I actually figured out the best way. looks like nobody really knows or cares. Using vegas

1. render to a sony mxf. HD file(which magic bullet works with)

2. those rendered mxf files and put them into another timeline together sync up audio, then re-render as a mpeg-2 HD atsc file.

3. that will then play on my ps3 and i can hook that up to the 4k projector at the theater and sit back and watch an HD movie 12 feet by 12 feet

You could use Raylight's P2 maker to make MXF files and put them back on the camera and use the camera as the display device. This is a little tricky though since it sounds like you are screening a feature and at 1080 you would need a bunch of P2 cards or a Firestore.

I would say otherwise the best way would be to make a bluray and attached a bluray player to the projector. The ps3 method sounds good too or if your editing system has hdmi/component out you could do that as well.

Hope it works out,
Andy

I just noticed this or else I would have replied sooner. While my recent experience wasn't exactly the same (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=152902), I would recommend testing whatever option(s) you come up with at the venue.

You are likely planning on doing this (or have done it) already, but, personally, it took me a few separate tries to get things right. Especially since you seem to be working with a very high quality projector, I'd make sure that your footage is at the best quality you can get.

I don't know anything about HD mpeg-2 codecs but if that results in any more compression than another option I'd keep trying.

Just my two cents. Good luck with everything!
