Imdb listing - frustrating the heeck out of me! Can you light my candle?

I was pretty excited to find out Imdb just listed my film DEUCE OF SPADES last friday! This was a milestone in my journey as a new kid on the block, self taught, rookie cinematographer.

I was a LOT LESS excited to see the way they listed my cast. Extras are above LEAD ACTORS. Say what???

I read their help files, in which they state they list cast with paying actors at top, and the remainded of list is based either upon the film end credits order (my film is not done so there goes that) - OR alphabetical.

However, looking at my cast list, it is NEITHER of above. Further more, to add to the confusion / frustration - IT KEEPS CHANGING.

I had listed my name as #45 and today I magically appear as #4 on my cast list. I looked at my profile and saw I was UP in POPULARITY 2,392 %

What does that mean? How do they measure that? And is this increase the reason why my name moved up the cast list???

WHO CAN ANSWERS THESE QUESTIONS FOR ME AND HELP ME OUT?

(cause their help desk, certainly isn't - sigh...)

You can see the listing here:

It really kills me when I google DEUCE OF SPADES IMDB to read:

"Deuce of Spades staring Stepahnie Keifer, Peter Freeland etc..." When these actors (who are very nice and whom I love dearly by the way so that is not the issue LOL) are in fact tiny little roles in my film - with just one scene at most... And no mention at all of my LEAD actor Tim McReynolds?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

Yeah, it's normal... not sure why it does that, but look at most films, and it seems the casting listings are off.. :( Sorry, I have no other answer.

I agree. Most listings are messed up - The question remains WHY? What is the system or logic behind the order of the cast listing?

Anyone??????????

you can number them in the order you want them to appear. go to update > correct cast > and it's the column furthest to the right where it says "ORDER".

candle. lit.

What Zak said + you should give it some time to even out.

It takes them a while to get ALL the info up on the pages, and things seem to change during that time period, so if you're seeing things change from one day to the next, that's not abnormal.

See what their 'final' version is and then submit changes, particularly if you already HAD numbered the talent. If you already numbered them, wait til the entire entry is complete and you might find that everybody ends up where they should be.

Agreed. I understand your frustration because I recently went though the same process. Also pretty much a rookie so I was similarly anxious to see everything laid out the right way after I submitted.

My project is smaller than yours (featurette), but everything did pretty much shake out after a few weeks of confusion. I even made a mistake in my listing which was fixed fairly quickly (about a week) after I submitted the correction.

I'm assuming you also threw them a few bucks, because as far as I know you have to do that in order to add photos to the page. That should also work in your favor. I solicited some advice from a more experienced producer before I submitted my info, and he basically said that if you're paying them...you move up the list.

That news was quite shocking to me. Haha!

You all fail!

IMDB lists the cast in a film in order of STARMETER when the film is in production. Only after a film has been RELEASED can you order your cast by lead roles. This is because most lead roles in movies have the lowest starmeters, usually. This is the way it is in my film - just worked out that way. You can't change it until it's released - and even then it's not a piece of cake.

Ah, yeah...I should have been more specific. My listings did shake out the right way, but it was probably just a matter of chance.

While I could rearrange the order slightly for the rest of the cast list, my three leads happened to fall essentially into the proper order - which I guess they based off the Starmeter. That would make perfect sense, and besides that Taormina clearly has a lot more experience with these things.

So...I only partly fail!

I was able to resubmit the list with numbers in it, so we'll see if it works or not.

WHAT POWERS THE STARMETER?

I saw I was over 2,800% more popular this week (LOL - I had no idea I was THAT popular) and I suspect its because it's my first week on Imdb so everybody is clicking on me.

I figure in a couple more weekd I'll be DOWN 5000% ...

Oye.

Is starmeter based solely upon acitvity WITHIN Imdb, or activity across the entire internet?

thansk for your help you gyus it's been so helpful!

Oh! One more question (IMPORTANT ONE) - I uploaded 5 photos (that's all I could afford LOL) to my film GALLERY area (NOT my personal page - the FILM listing)

How do they sort the photos?

they do not appear by order submitted.

I want to add more photos (but those are less important grabs) and worry that, if I do, they will replace the ones currently displaying on my listing. The current photos are more key and I don't want them to become shuffled to the second page if I upload more photos.

HELP?

For visual ref here is my listing: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1384586/

Starmeter is based on how many people look you up (or your film) on IMDb only. It constantly fluctuates. As for the order, leave it alone.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

I feel your pain, as for almost 2 years now I have been fighting with IMDB to get the cast list right for my film. Hell my first movie the cast list was just sorted out in late 2008, and that movie was listed in August 2006.

You just have to keep doing correction updates and make sure you list your cast in the order they are credited in the movie and they will eventually get it right.

Well, I think I have the PERFECT solution for that: List only the ONE lead actor hehehehe.

(but then again, they'd probably manage to still get his one order wrong LOLOL)

Hey guys, what about the photo gallery question? can anyone tackle that issue and give me some pointers?

WANTED TO POST THEIR REPLY TO MY HELP DESK QUESTIONS, sa it may benefit others:

1- CAST LIST ORDER:

Thank you for contacting us.

We have recently changed the way we display cast lists on films that are still unreleased/in production. The cast credits are now ordered by popularity (based on the STARmeter ranks of the cast members).

When the film is completed and/or about to be released and a final cast list is available, the display will switch to the billing order.

Thank you for your understanding.

NOTE: I THINK THIS IS A VERY POOR WAY TO GO ABOUT IT, BUT I CAN CLEARLY SEE HOW THIS WOULD FINANCIALLY BENEFIT THEM.

Consequence; It makes me feel like only listing my main cast for now. but it's too late, I would disapoint too many of my other cast members and I don't want to do that. Thank God my main cast actors are such genuine, nice people and understand what we are dealing with or i owuld have a mutiny on my hands LOL... Dang.

AS FAR AS THE PHOTOS GOES, THIS IS WHAT THEY SAID:

Faith,
The most recent photos added are the ones that show up on the home page and since this is an automated process, it cannot be altered..
