Need a little advice, so I just got my tax return and Im wondering if I can find a HVX200 for around 3,000 anywhere. I've been looking on the web, B&h is selling the cam for about 6,000 but I've seen other sites that are selling the cam for half, i'm just not sure if they are reputable or not. Does anyone have any advice on where I can find one for that price?

I you see a new one for less that $5000 than it is a scam and you need to run without looking back. Grey market cameras (cameras meant for other markets)...sell you the camera but not the INCLUDED 16GB card...nor battery...nor charger...nor ANY included accessories.

Shane is right, if you see any new camera selling for half of what B&H is selling it for... run like hell. Traditionally, they tell you it's in stock, then they try and sell you ridiculously over priced accessories. When you refuse, they tell you it's suddenly out of stock, and you'll never see it. Or, it's grey market stuff that on top of not including everything Shane pointed out, isn't going to be covered under warranty.

Either you'll have to settle for a used camera, get it on some sort of lease, or go with an HMC150, which may or may not satisfy the requirements of what you are looking for.

I ordered my HVX200 from ebay user "Time2Envy". The other users are right in that it did not come with the P2 card, but it did come with everything else. Official batteries, charger, etc...

After reading the forums posts on here, I still decided to get it from Time2Envy, and everything came as promised. I have a Firestore that I have upgraded myself to 320GB so I did not need the P2 cards.

Also, make sure you call Panasonic when you get it to register the warranty and everything. From time2Envy I got an official Panasonic dealer warranty, and called up Panasonic to make sure it was valid. They had me read the serial number to them, and it is a USA model serial number, so they said it was 100% valid and authorized, so I would recommend that seller. I have had nothing but great productions out of my HVX200 :)

EDIT: this is the exact kit I bought from him. All official Panasonic stuff, just no P2 card.

Just checked: the model number on mine is AG-HVX200P (USA/NTSC model). Not PAL, not Pacific, like some ppl think, lol.

From the E-Bay ad:
All of our products are covered by a warranty of 1 years parts and 90 days for labor. Due to our very low low prices, we are prevented from listing our items with manufacturer warranty. Our products are the same as if you bought in stores

This is an HVX205A, a grey market camera, the Japanese version of the HVX200A. You will not get warranty coverage in North America, nor are you getting your 16gb p2 card, nor will you be getting Barry Green's book.

For $3000 I'd try to find a used HVX on the market in this very forum or craigslist or some other such retailer. Then again its your money, and I do work for a company who is an authorized panasonic dealer so I am biased.

The filters and tripod that you are getting are junk, I don't know what about the wide angle/TC extenders but good glass costs money and there is no way around that so I'd be suspect about them as well.

I bought my HVX for 3grand with 2 8 gig cards from craigslist. Of course I met him at his studio and tested it. There are plenty of them out there. You can also score a brand new 100% legit HMC150 for a little over that as well.

My DVX100A was a grey market buy 4 years ago and I have not had a single problem out of it. It had a warranty from Canada. But I bought it when I had no idea what Grey market was.

the ONLY way youre going to find a legit HVX for $3000 or under is going to be used. but rest easy, there are a ton of legit sellers on ebay and craigslist and such places. the state of the economy is making it a bit of a buyers market. you shouldnt have much trouble.

but just use your brain, ask the right questions and remember, any deal that sounds too good to be true almost always IS.

Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. I guess what I'm trying to say is: just get one and have fun with it.

Great Advice

Thanks for the advice, now I just have some research to do. Thanks!

There are a lot of 200's on Ebay for sale. Just make sure you see some decent photos of it
and purchase from a ranked seller. Also, if you pay via paypal, I believe they warranty it.
