can I view live camera feed on Avid?

Is there a way to view what my camera is seeing on avid if it's in camera mode?

If not, is there any way to see what the camera sees with a different software?

Thanks,

JM

Confused about your question. Think you might be thinking of Adobe On Location. With that software your laptop can show your feed, with wfv & v-scope, and act as a ddr.

I mean, I want to plug my camera on my computer, then turn on my camera and see on my computer what my camera is seeing.

Like hooking up my camera to the TV, I'm able to see my camera's view on the TV screen. How do I do that with Avid or, in general, on the computer.

Thanks,

JM

If you plug your Firewire camera into your machine and launch Avid's capture tool. Disable Source TC and hit the capture button it should work. I can't think why anyone would want to this?

I did this once when I was first starting out. I didn't have an overscan option on my monitor. It helped me to get my matte box set up right so that the edges weren't getting into my shots! Now I have a sweet Marshall HD monitor that lets me see everything.

Your firewire is hot all the time (both ways) so when you put your camera in vtr mode, you'll see your avid's output if firewire is hooked up.

i figure it might be good as an alternate to on location. granted you won't get TC or any of that, but if ur in a jam, could be useful

But firewire will only work with SD and HDV projects (maybe). If you are shooting DVCPRO HD, you can't view anything via firewire.
