The Adaptimax: Use Nikon lenses directly on EX3 body

Recieved mine today and can say it is a nice piece of equipment, well machined and strong. The nikon fit is nice my lenses feel firmly attached (no wobble and not much slack unlike my letus nikon lens adaptor which could be better). Look forward to using it with a 200mm and 300mm lens for wildlife around my lakes. Noticed it has upset MTF who have virtually halfed the price of their adaptor to £155 on ebay, I would have bought one from them some time ago but felt they were massively overpriced for such a simple thing made in seconds on cnc machine. So thanks steve for what I consider to be a great price for a well made product.

Glad you like it Steve. Show us some footage when you can with the 300mm.

By the way I wish it did take seconds to make! Fastest we can do them is 22 minutes each. Then there's anodising plus making the locating pin before assembly.

Give me the right tools and I will make them in 21 minutes and 55 seconds.
I will order one this week.
What is the expected delivery time for Holland?

I have both EX3 and Nikon adaptor. I play with my 24,50,85 and 70-300.
I notice a lake of sharpness (compared to the stock lens), and A LOT of glow everywhere, even with the 50 1.4 at 4. At 1.4, it's like in a alcoholic dream... Mostly blue glow.
Maybe 24x36 lenses find there limit with this density of pixels.... This could explain the little softness, but I can't figure the glows.
If anyone has another experience...

I had the exact same problem. Send back the adaptor as it is useless for me.
Also I had color aberrations.

You have the wrong adaptor. You certainly didn't buy mine.

I have not had one sent back to me and so far not even one complaint, because it works perfectly and everyone has been very happy with it. It's great value for money. I was out today shooting with it with a 300mm Nikon and had pin sharp image with no glow or blue glow.

In fact I have used the Adaptimax with a 14mm, 17-35mm 2.8, 35mm F2, 35-70 2.8 50mm, 70-300mm, 80-200 2.8 and all have worked perfectly. Crisp, high quality telephoto images with the longer lenses.

Sorry Steve, my post wasn't ment to be against your adaptor. I just replyed to the post before wanting to tell people that there is a problem with nikon lenses used on the ex3 body.
In fact I used Mikes adaptor, but I don't think there is any difference between yours and his, except for the color (btw the red looks really cool!)

My problems (color aberration, blur) are only visible with open aperture. I used
nikon zeiss 50mm/1,4
nikon zeiss 28mm/2,8
nikkor 35mm/2,0
nikkor 50mm/1,4

Everywhere I had the same problems.
As soon as I went down one f-stop, everything was fine. But as I wanted to use the adaptor to have a cheep relay lens for my letus, it doesn't make sens to use a 35mm, 2.0 lens that I have to use with 4.0

If your adaptor is not having this problem ... send me one, I will give it a try. But as far as I read you got "inspired" by Mikes adaptor, so I guess its the same.

Hi Earlybird,
I have not been shooting wide open because that is not of benefit with this adaptor. Its usage is different to a 35mm adaptor, where you would want to have the lens wide open for the shallow depth of field.

The Adaptimax is not designed to be used like a 35mm adaptor, but rather an adaptor which allows users to fix Nikons onto their EX3's so they can get shots not available to them with the stock lens. But a shallow depth of field can be acheived anyway, because using a longer lens gives a shallow depth of field.

Take a 200mm Nikon and fix it on your EX3 with the Adaptimax. Shoot at F5.6. Sharp image, shallow DOF. Use a 300mm and an even shallower DOF is acheived.

You just don't need to shoot with the Nikons wide open. If you do, use a Letus, Brevis etc.

Its a completely different type of adaptor for completely differnet usage. And well worth having one in your camera bag.

Hope that makes sense!

Yep, as I said I wanted to use it as a relay for letus.

Therefore it is not working, but I have to agree, with one or two stops down I got really good pictures.

Availability of the Adaptimax

Availability of the Adaptimax

anyone have ideas how to get this adapter in the next 7 days to NEW YORK?

steve, is there stock available and can shipping be done this quickly?

thnx

Not unless there's someone in NY or USA who can loan you one I am afraid. It would have been possible if there wasn't a bank holiday in the way, but in the UK there's no post because of the long weekend ( Good Friday, Bank Holiday Monday)

if he pays steve, DHL do an overnight to NY, if you sent tuesday it would arrive, wednesday or Thursday. You being in Dorset may slow things down though! My branch at heathrow does it overnight.

I have used Fedex and DHL myself. They pick up from me here in Dorset at 3-4PM, then it goes to Bournemouth for overnight to London. Then is sent next day.

So there is a small possibility of Thursday but I won't guarentee it myself, and certainly not if there is an important deadline!
