I've been MIA from the board for awhile but I wanted to post some info on the web series I've been working on for the last year. The first episode launched on Friday and the second episode went live this morning. Production wise, the series was shot with a DVX100A and a HV20--both in 24p mode. Half of the series was shot in the New York City area and the other half was shot in Los Angeles.

Here's where you can find episodes: (New episodes every Monday)

Series synopsis:

Hell Froze Over is an edgy, sometimes raunchy, and always deranged series about Jody (Tracy Clifton) and all the men shes ever rejected. In order to prove a point to her roommate Brooke (Diana Toshiko), Jody decides to go on a date with every man shes ever turned-down, starting with the lunatic she just passed on the street (Sean Simbro). In every episode, Jody tries to make the best of things on dates with the bizarre and broken men who she turned down the first time around. In the process, it irreverently explores sexuality, relationships, human foibles, and curses from God.

Episode 1 Synopsis - "Whiskey"

To prove to her roommate that her bad luck in love has nothing to do with the men she chooses, Jody decides to date every man she's ever rejected, starting with the guy she just passed on the street.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Sean Simbro
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 2 Synopsis - "Mustache"

There was always something wrong with Bruce's face. Something missing. But, just in time for his date with Jody, he's got an amazing new addition. Meanwhile, Brooke tries to convince Jody to surprise Bruce with an amazing new subtraction of her own.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Garret Kirby
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 3 Synopsis - Threesome

Helen and Ted wanted to have a threesome. They invited Jody, and she refused. Now, she's giving a chance to everyone she's ever rejected - even couples. Sadly, since that initial offer, Helen and Ted have suffered a messy break-up. But that shouldn't be a problem, should it?

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Kristin Quinn, and Ben Dzamba
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 4 Synopsis - Stalker

Jody finally agrees to go on a date with Larry, the man who's been stalking her for years. But she comes prepared, determined to make the night a good one for both of them.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, and J Wilder Konschak
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 5 Synopsis - Lesbian

Jody agrees to go on a date with the woman who asked her out months before, but she's not sure she's ready to get romantic with a lady. Luckily, her roommate Brooke has a plan to help her out.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Saramoira Shields
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 6 Synopsis - Mystery Man

Jody can't remember why she turned Tony down the first time he asked, and now that she's agreed to go out with him, she just can't shake the feeling that it must have been a pretty good reason.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Steve Gifford, Michael Benni Pierce
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 7 Synopsis - Prude

Jody goes on a date with a gentleman who appears to have somewhat Victorian sensibilities. That is, until she calls him on it, and he sets out to prove her wrong.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Matt Mcnutt
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 8 Synopsis - Drama Queen

Exhausted from a long, sleepless night, Jody goes on a breakfast date with a man whose emotional extremes aren't only exhausting, and irritating, but potentially deadly.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Mark Hugo
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 9 Synopsis - Inspector

Over a long, nightmarish, and psychedelic evening, Jody dates Rufus, a man who inspects strange, possibly deadly, imports from exotic foreign lands. And she plays with them.

Starring: Tracy Clifton, Diana Toshiko, Gabriel Mckee
Directed by Misplaced Planet

Episode 10 Synopsis - The Reckoning

Jody goes on a date with a bad, bad boy. Hell Froze Over ends season one with its strangest, and perhaps most disturbing, episode ever.

An Introduction

An Introduction

As I said in the first post, I’ve been MIA from DVXuser for the last couple of months. Projects and life just got in the way and I had started to ween myself off from checking the site everyday.

For those who don’t know/remember me, I was never a frequent poster—more of the type of user who would come to the site to absorb information. I participated in three consecutive DVXuser Fests—Zombie Fest, Sci-Fest, and Hero Fest. (Each link will take you to my individual film discussion thread)

This thread is my attempt at a post-mortem/production blog for the web series my friends and I just completed. It took a year to make and we launched last Friday (2/13). The series is a 10 episode run with new episodes every Monday. The run will end in mid-April.

I’m going to try to be as open and honest about the production and marketing process as I can. I see this thread as a writing exercise for myself but hopefully people can learn some lessons for our successes and mistakes. Hopefully I’ll be putting up new posts daily or every other day. Enjoy and feel free to comment/question/disagree with me—the DVXuser community has always impressed me with its honest critiques and feedback.

Review of the series up at Tilzy.tv

Check it: http://www.tilzy.tv/dating-exes-for-self-discovery-and-laughs-in-hell-froze-over.htm

"Threesomes, dating mishaps, and one-night stands have never been funnier. Well, maybe they were in My Damn Channel’s Wainy Days, but that’s more of a gozno comedy. This Misplaced Planet production, like the classic online original We Need Girlfriends, is firmly grounded in the realm of sitcom. The series explores the sexual exploits of a single woman, Jody and will entertain those with a taste for dry humor and an aversion to chick flicks."

Anyone have experience with YouTube AdWords advertising? We've kind of been doing it off and on ever since our IndieClick ad buy expired.

Seems like it can get out of hand in terms of the click-throughs if you don't closely monitor it. It is, of course, dependent on how much you bid on each of the tags.

Hey, I watched Episode 10, then went back and watched the other nine. They were addictive, like candy. I'd definitely watch another season if you made one.

The only negative thing I'd have to say is that I'm not a big fan of the intro. I think it doesn't stand up to the quality of the episodes themselves.

Kudos!
