Why doesn't the 200A's lens shade have "Leica" on it?

Not that it's that important, but I was just curious. Dreaming of owning an HVX for a year, I got to know every detail of it, like the "Leica" on the lens shade. But when I finally got my HVX200a, the lens shade was blank.

I never realized it didn't...got an original 200 here, and mine indeed says "LEICA DICOMAR" on it.

You could always get a sticker made, lol.

If it said LEICA they would have to charge more. Look at the leica digi still point/shoot cameras - the almost same Panasonic versions cost much less.

Nope, bought it from B&H.

It's not really a big deal, I was just curious as to why the 200s had it and the 200As didn't.

Doesn't matter. I received a gray market HVX200 from B&H in the USA.

As for the lens hood, you may find someone to swap hoods with. I know a few people (myself included) who tape over the bright logos and names on the camera.

Best,
Andrew

what's the motivation for this?

Hey wgzn,

For my friends, they find the lens hood an appropriate place to add color markings to distinguish camera kits. For instance, the Green kit would have green tape on the hood, as well as batteries and other accessories. Yellow, Red, etc. makes sure gear isn't mixed up.

Personally, I taped them off for security reasons, then simply left the gaff tape there. I've worked in some pretty "iffy" locations where it's recommended to remove logos from clothing and backpacks due to abundant theft. I have a way to make my HVX200 look like a POS home-camcorder from the '80s, if needed :)

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure my 200-A has the Leica logo on it. The main reason I say this is because I had to mark the cameras to makee sure what was what.
I'll try and double Monday.

I'd like to see a picture of this..

The hvx200a I use at work has leica on the lens hood. Same place as on the original 200 I used to use.

I recently looked again. Initially I thought they completely got rid of the logo in the 200a. Instead of on the side, the logo is on the inside of the hood face.

mcvideo and Jamiebailon,

Here's a quick photo, since you asked about it. Not the greatest example of the taped camera, but definitely the greatest example of how scruffy I can get while on the road.
