On Camera "Lights"

On Camera "Lights"

Thank you everyone for all your post. A lot of good information from all.

I am getting ready to pick-up the hvx200 and I have been searching for an on camera light. It seems Panasonic could have somehow created a plug in for the light cables as they have for your bigger cameras, (XDCAM, Beta SP, DVCpro, etc.). I think a lot of us would just be going with the Frezzi's or Anton Bauer's, etc.

This thread has been great and I am some what sold on the Vidled lights. I just have this thing where I like to try things out first before I purchase.

1) Has anyone who has purchased the lights had any problems with them?

2) What is your preference, Standard or Deluxe? I was thinking of getting the standard just because it's cheaper, however, is it an inconvenience having the batter pack on top?

3) I noticed a lot of people were leaning more towards the "coolLED". Any reason why?

4) Has anyone used the VariZoom LED camera light #S2010P?

If so, please let me know what you think. VariZoom sells them for $399.
A mount comes included that attaches to your camera and you use can use a PAN, CAN, or SONY battery.

I have not seen these in person yet but EVS in Glendale, CA has them for $389.

B&H Photo $369+shipping.

Encompass media has them for $379 + shipping

Thank you, Jimmy

oh boi! i am down to the wire with this... i got a wedding on april 11th and vidled has nothing on production since they are out of housings. Should i just get the litepanel from b&h?

i'm still waiting for the day where we can replace all traditional lighting kits with ALL leds. super high power as bright as the sun stuff, but... not as hot of course.

Deluxe is the way to go. I have 2 and use them for all sorts of stuff, both for video and stills! Service is amazing as well!

Good Luck - Wilson

Hey guys. I am looking for a light to shoot parties, where lighting is erratic, changes colors and most of the time it's pretty dark. I am shooting with a panasonic hpx170. I was wondering which version of the vidled to chose. Also, how quick is the shipping and support? And how much real time I would get out of the built in battery?

Frezzi lights are the best. And BY FAR the most durable.

Any other light would have broke in half. That was a $15 repair and the light even worked after that to get one more clip.

I realize this is a total novice question, but is it possible to use more than two LAV mics with my HPX170? I've been using two, one on each channel, but I have two hosts interviewing guests out in the field, and I really need to have them and the guest all on wireless mics. I can't seem to get a straight answer from other HPX users, so thought I'd give this a shot. Thanks in advance, folks.

The "Zylight" supposed to be the best LED available. No gels and all the colour you want just by turning a knob !!! Unfortunately not avaible yet in Europe.
I actually have the Zylight Z90 and it really is an awesome piece of work. Besides being able to adjust temperature, tint, hue, and saturation, the quality of the light itself is very nice - it's extremely soft and and when you turn up the power it almost seems as though everything gets "brighter", rather than a "illuminated by light source" look. In terms of construction, it's a chunk of metal with a thick plate covering the LEDs, so it's not breaking anytime soon (edit: seems the control panel is made of plastic, still doesn't feel flimsy though). Shame that it's expensive.

There are a lot of pages in this post... but just curious, has anyone seen this light? http://www.amazon.com/LED-CN-160-Dimmable-Camcorder-Panasonic/dp/B004TJ6JH6

I shot with a guy who had the 126 LED version, and it was bright as hell! Comes with gels, and it's dimmable etc...

My REAL question is, has anyone seen a good mount for lights like this that you would use for the HVX-200? (I mean to get the light away from the camera a bit so as not to be so flat) if you look at the page above, it suggests the Adorama Heavy Duty L-Bracket (only $10!) but because it mounts where the tripod (or shoulder mount) goes, I don't think it would work... any other suggestions on this?

Hi ruester, I personally own a few Israeli arms (articulating arms) from ikan. I bought my first one of these to hold my monitor, but they also work for many other applications, including support of lights and audio devices. It comes with removable hot shoe shoe mount something that makes it very versatile. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/searc...&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search= i know that are not cheap but to me they are worth it because of their flexibility and alternate applications. -flat interviews and or ugly background shadows are greatly diminished.
Hope this Helps
