So here is my situation:

I have Sony vegas 7 on my computer windows xp. Couldn't render my video because the computer is old and not enough ram.(2 gbs of ram) (trying to render full feature length film and my computer just cant do it. With color correction and everything.

SO I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER AND NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK!!!!!!

I bought a hp AMD Phenom™ X4 9750* quad-core processor with 8 gbs of ram.
Which happens to be 64 bit.

So VEGAS 7 doesnt work. So I got Vegas 8. Raylight isn't working right with the new computer, so I upgraded to Raylight Ultra. Which stills doesn't work properly. xml errors.

The main problem is that all my footage is on my harddrives and nothing is linking up in vegas. I have to go through and relink each one. But in the timeline there is sections offline!!!!

I think out of the 120 folders on my hard drive there are some of the same names for the mxf files. So I think the problem is that it is only linking one of them and not the other mxf with the same name or p2 number for the mxf file.

SO I think im going to take back my new computer, but I still dont know how to render my movie.

Is there a way to get a fast computer (mother board) and good size of ram that isn't 64 bit windows vista?

Im so fustrated! im getting nothing done. I hate changeing setups.

I dont know what to do?????

Please ANY SUGGESTINGS??

thanks a lot

A new set up is frustrating and takes some time to sort out.

Do not throw your toys out of the cot...Perservere and work through one issue at a time.

Hey Samyork.

We are in the process of getting the bugs worked out with using Raylight and Vegas with a 64bit Vista system. Some clients have had success using it on there Vista 64 machines though already. Have you contacted DVFilm tech support? If not go to this link and put in a support request and our tech support staff will work with you to resolve the problem.

Best,
Andy

Maybe downgrade your OS to a 32 bit version? I personally use XP for now, as I have an old computer as well with similar specs. I'm waiting on Windows 7 before I go 64 bit.

I would definitely keep the new hardware, taking it back would probably just be more trouble. Another possibility would be to render the film out in sections perhaps? Maybe in 3 or 4 parts? I'm not sure if Vegas will non-destructively direct stream copy video files or not...doing that and then dropping the 3 or 4 files on the timeline and re-rendering those to one file might degrade your quality. I don't have the best knowledge on this, but just thought I would throw it out there as an option. Good luck!

2 gigs of ram seems like enough to me...I think you were having a problem besides the amount of ram on your old system. I personally would restore the project on the old computer, and seek support from there.

I've advised a number of people to deal with their old systems, atleast while in the middle of a project....their are just too many odd variables to deal with, and it's best for a project to start and finish on a single system.

Depending on how the project is to be viewed or whatever, as Zephyr said, you can output multiple files, and re-link them in your DVD authoring program by putting all the files on one timeline(I'm unsure how you do it with your setup, as I use Encore, but putting everything on one timeline is how I do it if needed).

You might also not have any memory troubles...could be scratch drive problems...do you even have a dedicated scratch drive? Is the drive you have setup as the scratch drive running short on space?

There are SO MANY factors that havn't been covered, and I think you may have made things harder for yourself by trying to put the project onto a different system...certainly one with a different OS and perhaps a different version of your NLE.

Sigh lets not make this a Mac/PC debate.

I agree with Nick, I don't see why you don't have enough memory to print out your project in Vegas. Is it simply that you are unable to see the project due to the amount of effects going on? So long as you can run the program you should have been able to print out a copy of the project. Sure it might take 80 hours of rendering time to render it out, or some such number, but if have the project edited then you should be able to render it.

I would try using 32bit vista or windows XP on your new machine, it should be able to make everything work just fine.

As to the whole mac experience thing I own both Macs and Pcs and get frustrated and angry at both. Off topic comments about the merit of either platform are just unnecesary. Its like seeing somebody on the side of the road changing their flat tire and slowing down, rolling down your window, and telling them that you've never had a flat tire with your car brand. Then driving off. It really doesn't help the poor chap changing the flat.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions.

SO I can downgrade my 64 bit to 32 bit? Does anybody know how. Also could I go down to windows xp? or dual boot it?

Also my pre- rendered folder on my old computer for vegas 7 has 1,872 mb available so I think (my capture scratch folder) is in the right place.

My time line is a hour and 20 minutes. Each movie render for a mpeg2 file takes about 8 hours and that is without any magic bullet(color correction put on the files)

I tried doing HD renders of the whole movie and my computer just stalls, so that is why I thought I should go out and just get a new computer! but I was wrong. (that is atsc mpeg2 hd render.)

So I could do it in sections and throw them into the video track in DVD ARchiect and it will be one solid film? interesting...

But the bigger issue was the mxf problem with relinking them into vegas 8. It just wont work. To many of the files on my hard drive how the same p2 numbers and vegas 8 will only link one of them.

Seems my reply was part of the exodus

I don't think you can downgrade the OS.

I'd return the project to the old computer. Then once on that system you need a larger hard drive. 1800mb is not enough. Bring the old computer with the project restored(as well as backed up), to a computer shop and ask them to upgrade the hard drive, and that you want the new drive "ghosted" from the old drive. This will give you a system exactly as it was, but with more hard drive space.

After that I would try to export, encode, or whatever it is your NLE calls it....if you still have troubles, then work with support teams such as mentioned above.
