My Toast 9 settings for 720/24p

I've read a lot of posts from users that seem to have an audio sync issue etc. when transcoding with toast 9. I have reviewed some of my footage after transcoding and find no sync issues. I thought I would post some screen grabs of what my settings look like to maybe help some of you that are using toast to transcode. I have been using the AIC codec for now and have only been shooting 720/24p.

I use the AIC due to being on a G5 system and FCS1 so I dont have ProRes codec and feel AIC produces better results than DVCProHD.

As far as I can tell these settings have been giving me synced audio. Maybe this will help some of you having problems as I find its easier sometimes to see something visually than reading posts with instructions on how to do something

How does it look?

How does it look?

How does it look? I never got good compression out of Toast. The Macroblocking and artifacts were awful. After reading forums across the web I use Apple Compressor and get stunning results. Never mind audio the image I get from Toast looks like 256kbps Quicktime 4. Have you found the magic recipe?

kgi i think you are confused. this is for those who need to transcode 150 footage for editing in older G5 FCP systems. You cant transcode .mts files in compressor.
the image looks great and has no macroblocking or artifacts.

I too use compressor for any encoding for DVD or web.

LOL! I searched "Blu-Ray OS X" and got your post. As I am thinking hard of upgrading from DVX to HMC I will re-read as it applies to that camera. The whole transcode thing is the only reason I don't have one now. Thanks.

Btw. no need to reset the size settings. Toast 9 will auto-detect and adjust it even if it says "640x480".

No dice. Still having the audio about 9 frames behind. Driving me nuts.

I too have had issues with audio sync(720/24P in Toast 9)...sucks! I have, however, found that if I import the files into iMovie (08) directly from the camera, the audio is lined up. I can then import the Imovie files into FCE4(in my case) and all seems "go"! I don't seem to see to much loss in image quality. Thoughts?

i will have to review some more footage and do some tests just to make sure im not having any sync issues. I dont know what would be causing the problems.

Just did an experiment with a transcoded 720/24p file to my settings that i mention at the top in FCP and moved my audio back and forward 9 frames just to see if i wasnt noticing the sync issue and it puts it way out of sync both ways so my transcoded clips are indeed in sync.

Roxio has released some updates for Toast what versions do you guys have installed?

I'm running 9.01 they are up to 9.04 now. Maybe thats the issue?

Ha! I think that was the issue...I removed Toast 9 and then re-installed, skipping the update prompt. I'm now running version 9.02 and it seems to convert 720/24p without any sync issues:thumbup: Good call Matt...Thanks!

I agree, Matts workflow saved me...
older g5, fcp 5.1.4 and toast 9.
Thanks again and thanks for posting the screen, I was a little unsure
about the quality setting saying medium, but everything looks and sounds great.

OK...so when people have re-installed toast 9 without installing updates(nessesary to transcode 720/24p), has anyone had/noticed changes with the toast video player? I re-installed toast 9 and now 720/24p converts properly, however, the toast video player does not respond as before and the .MTS files are now grey instead of white when viewed >PRIVATE>AVCHD>BDMV>STREAM>.MTS

Anyone else having these issues? Any fix?

edit: Forgot to mention that the "grey" files have a green "exec" on the top...
