New Firmware 1.12 does what?

My EX1 is at Sony for the 1.11 firmware upgrade, I was told that they now upgrade to 1.12. Has anyone heard any info on this new upgrade yet?

My CONCERN is could it take away the ability to use a Kensington?

The only info tech had at present is 1.12 fixes a minor bug, but were unable to tell me which one. And as far as card adaptors, etc... go, if the camera it isn't using a Sony product they wouldn't know...

Mine went in recently and I stuck with the older firmware. That's what I would recommend if you use your K&S and want to keep using them. :)

I would doubt very seriously that it disables KxS. The EX-3 firmware upgrade does not disable it. Meanwhile, I do not know the specs of the 1.12 upgrade.

I have heard some concerns through a third party from a Sony engineer that 1.12 might break KxS support. They havn't confirmed it as they hadn't got it themselves but I would recommend being cautious of 1.12 until we have at least one person who can confirm they have it and KxS still works.

Just had my EX1 in for the V1.11 update so that I can finally use KxS.
It came back with v1.12 printed on the invoice.
I had a mini freak-out. I assumed Sony is not too happy losing all the SxS sales and took the opportunity to introduce a new update that eliminates the SDHC ability.
well- don't worry. All is fine.
v1.12 works with SDHC.
I wonder why Sony doesn't promote this?

Because they still want to sell their SxS cards at outrageous prices. It's ok though, many if not most Excam Ex owners know about the KxS stuff now.

Must be improving their camera sales a bit I would think, definetely a bonus to an already great cam.

I would guess Sony has mixed feelings about the KxS... on one hand it hits hard on their SxS sales, but on the other hand many MANY more people are buying an EX1 BECAUSE of the cheaper KxS solution. I would guess (could be wrong) that the markup on the camera is higher than the cards, or at least the additional EX1 units sold makes up for the hit on the SxS sales.

That is great news then, no need to be concerned anymore.

My dealer ( well established/respected that everyone knows dealer) called sony up to check for me this is what he wrote back :

I just got off the phone with Sony and version 1.11 and 1.12 are very similar. He tells me the only difference is that in 1.11 the factory default is set to 50htz and full auto, in 1.12 it's set to 60htz and full manual. You only see a difference when you select "restore to factory defaults" He tells me there is no performance change and if you have 1.11 all you do is just change those two settings in the menu.

Thanks all - for the valuable responses! I called the tech here, at Sony Los Angeles and requested that he go with 1.12. BTW he did offer me the option of 1.11 if that was what I preferred.

I didn't want my EX 1 in the mail so I drove there and dropped it off. My experience with everyone at this facility has been amazing. I've called several times because the cam needs a bit of maintenance (under warranty) and the people I've spoken with were always pleasant, very helpful, and even when I've left VMs, they've gotten right back to me.

Off topic, but FYI if it helps anyone - my 1yr warranty was going to expire a few days after I dropped it off, they offered me their two more year extended for $180, which I jumped on.
