Giving EX1 footage to clients

Hello,

I recently moved from the world of tape and decided to go with the EX1 and SxS cards as opposed to the Panasonic and P2 cards. I was convinced that the Sony would be able to capture the same if not better footage. And the cards seemed to be just as fast and cheaper.

Unfortunately, most of my clients still use the P2 cards and have the appropriate hardware and software for that. Or, the client use tapes.

My question is, If I need to give footage to my client for them to use, or they want to "walk with the tape", what is the most efficient way to do that quickly and in the field.

I imagine that I would capture the footage to my macbook in the field and burn quicktime files to a DVD. But I'm not upgrading to final cut studio 2 until next week and want to have a better idea of the process before I do.

I would appreciate any advice or comments on this.

Thank you,

Jeric

I work at a company that does a lot of stuff for ESPN and ABC. Some of their freelance shooters use the HVX200 or EX1 in the field as a second camera (they use the varicam as the main camera). Many higher end Avids can't edit P2 or EX1 footage (although I think that's changing). Often ESPN will require the camera ops to dump to tape. Many guys own or rent one of the small Panasonic DVCPRO HD decks with firewire to dump to tape at the end of the day. Other guys will bring the card files into Final Cut Pro and convert the footage to quicktime files and put everything on a drive or DVD-R. This is a bit of a hassle.

I wonder if you could just use XDCAM transfer software and dumpfiles to DVD-R or hard drive (bypassing Final Cut Pro). Does the software standalone? I am not sure. Let us know what you figure out.

When I use my EX1 for work projects, I just go directly out of the HD SDI camera connection into the Avid HD SDI. At home I just use Final Cut Pro.

You could shoot to SD cards and give them to them as the master, then let them handle the file integration in which ever way they choose. Most of the tools are free software such as Clip Browser or XDCAM Transfer.

If you want to keep your media then perhaps 2.5" hard drives with the BPAV folders ither seperated or integrated with clip browser.

I am sure P2 shooters arn't giving away their P2 cards, so what is the work flow for them?

Harddrives dropped to the client at a later date.

If the client wants to walk away with something, make them bring the harddrive or just shoot tape.
