Color and contrast continuity question

What is the best way to achieve continuity in color and contrast when changing angles?

In other words: there are a lot of settings in the DVX100. If you've already locked down a shot and your changing positions, which of these settings do you NOT touch at all (for the purpose of color/contrast continuity)

You mean, changing angles at the same location?

If the lighting is consistent, which it should be, you won't be changing anything expect possibly the iris.

i have a similar question which is posted sumwhere else but didnt get much response.

Its about shooting in teh sun and exposure consistency. How do u keep ur shots consistent from shot to shot (different angles) in the sun with itt changing in light quality and intensity. I eyeball it and hope for the best but there must be a more consistent way. for example i shot from one angle or type of shot (medium) then the sun went in some clouds (big ass cloud so it would take a while). So i eyeballed and got it as close as i can with opening the iris and shutter speed ect. to get the other shot. is there a more tried and true way apart from light meter (which i dont have or know how to use)

Dont mean to highjack ur thread Uturn but i would imagine this would be helpful to u also :)

It's nearly impossible to fight the sun on a cloudy day, and even when color correcting the footage, it's really tough to get a high contrast clear shot to match with a flat cloudy shot .

Even on a clear day, you have to shoot and shoot quick if you want stuff to intercut nicely.

The pros use big silk screens to diffuse the sunlight, to even it out, and they bring in their own lights to key the talent.

That's correct. I just want to change angles (from a MS to a CU) or maybe get a shot-reverse if there are two people talking. The lighting is consistent.

So in other words, I can change only the iris? What about I plug it into FCP and one shot has more light than another? How do I keep that contrast and color the same? or is it inevitable and I'm gonna have to color correct no matter what?

I'm trying to do as less color matching between shots as possible.

If you keep your lighting consistent, the same settings will get you the same result. To keep your exposure the same, use your zebras and your marker.

what are your zebras set to? How low do they go? I have one of the first dvx 100 models, and it won't go below 80%, I don't know what the new models do.

It took me a while to realise that the zebras were at 80%, I'm so used to them being at 70%. So for a while, everything was over exposed.
