NEW ADAPTER: Redrock M2 Encore

Are you saying there isn't any? I don't remember the details of that but I do remember that the microX encore has 30% larger optics. Which I believe should take care of any problems regardless of XY adjustment.

On a Brighter note, I talked to one of the re-sellers that got a chance to play with the encore and he said it blows the Letus outta the water (they sell both adapters so I figure it's not a bs remark.) Still can't wait to see the video!

X/Y allows for zooming out wider which is always helpful given the limited choice in still wide angle lenses. Zooming in at Academy size doesn't cut it for real wide angle. Your widest Nikon prime with a reasonable stop is 20mm and 18mm for a ZF (at 3.5). If you want to emulate your wide cine lenses such as 12 or 14mm you really need the ability to zoom out as far as you can. X/Y maximizes this.

Also it helps balance the edge to edge falloff /vignettingrather than being biased to one side. Found this indispensable with the Ultimate on an EX or HVX.

Folks

Tim - it does have x-y adjustment via the coupler rings

The footage is only interesting in that it is a 20mm nikon lens on a sony V1U. The 20mm exhibits no falloff or vignetting.

Please note that the post specifically said "Please do not post this link outside of the Redrock forums, as it will be taken down at some point when we have more official footage" so don't expect the link to be active for long.

I remember somewhere in a previous post that Brian said the X/Y adjustment was available as an accessory?

Just did a little digging and here it is:

i just really want to see the diffusion aspect of the GG via the bokeh. At a half stop of light loss, i would guess it parallels the diffusion of the LEX.

PaPa - we have some projects shooting now so that footage will be available shortly. The footage above was using the original cinescreen and not the cinescreen II. again, it was a proto test from way back only to demonstrate wide angle lenses.

First let me just preface my post by saying that I have been an M2 user for a long time and I've always been satisfied with it. I shot this little short with the standard M2 and the HVX a few months ago. www.exposureroom.com/bunnies -- password is "bunnies" -- Always been satisfied with the M2 and I was excited, like everyone else, about the Encore but didn't really know if I was going to buy one... Did I really need it?

Well today I got the opportunity to do some test scenes with the Redrock Micro Encore on the standard HVX200 and it performed awesomely. Tons more light coming through. Everything fits together easier and it's more snug. I have always shot with the image flipped, but today was the first time I used the MicroX. And it's very very cool. I just offloaded the P2 cards and starting playing with the footage and loved how I didn't have to flip the image. AND the footage looks great. It is a better image than the M2. No vignetting and perfect edge to edge sharpness.

We were going to shoot a big scene at a park but it was raining throughout the day so we had to simplify some stuff, shortened the scene and changed the location.

We're shooting all weekend and I should have some cool stuff to show off very soon. Maybe i'll put up a little preview tomorrow to quench the Encore thirst.

I'm wondering...if one were to upgrade from the M2 to the Encore but not upgrade the MicroX flip component, would you still get at least some of that edge to edge sharpness and increased light transmission that the Encore promises? It's a pretty tight economy these days and I still have a few components I want to buy for my rig (decent follow focus, decent matte box) and need to save money where I can.

Also I always wondered why when the SD/HD universal acromat came out why it was 55mm and not the 72 of the original HD acromat. It seemed like common sense that you would want the acromat to remain the larger diameter for the vignetting problem. Was the technology just not there at the time? Kind makes me upset that a larger acromat is now being touted in the Encore.
