D90 Motor Drive + Twixtor Trailer Inspired by Matthew

You need to try this with a nikon D3 - thirteen FPS on 2k size I think - it looked very 'private ryan' - Ill have to try again with the shutter at 13th or 25th (nearly 26th)

One word of caution, shutter rated at 150 000 clicks

I did 13000 over two days trying this !

It is lovely to work with proper files

Why cant we just have a 25FPS Raw shooting DSLR with all the controls

It will come

S

That would be sweet, but yes, gotta watch that shutter life. Makes doing this a very once in a while kind of thing otherwise you'd burn out these cams within 6-8 hours of use.

So you used a timer mechanism? I have the ML-L3 wireless remote and you cant use BOTH the remote and 4.5fps shooting. I dont know why. Its one or the other...

Would I have to buy a remote timer release? I have Camera Control Pro 2 Software which I can use i guess

I am not sure exactly as I don't have either. I am using the normal shutter and also the 9 frame automatic timer. You might want to ask Matthew as I believe he may have used a remote.

Cool,

I'll be showing that and Matts piece in my cinematography class next week.

Oh i see what your doing. But the automatic timer only lets you use the L continuos shooting mode (diddnt know L could be set t. 4.5fps) though it was just the H setting only that allowed 4.5fps...

I've got a question for ya Pirata. Do you think this DSLR/Twixtor method would work with stop motion material?

I'm thinking of a creature effect for a film I might do later this year. I don't want to go the CGI route because I don't feel that it will be possible to get someone who can actually create an effect that would blend with the live action footage in a believable enough way. If I could build the creature and animate it stop motion style, but then blend the frames together with Twixtor, that would look pretty cool I think.

it works. that's exactly what i've tried twixtor for in the past. i animate on fours or less then tween with twixtor. works really well, even on my old super 8 films scanned to dv.

Sweet biscuits!!!!!!!

I think I've found my solution for my problem. Thanks.

i will it i find it, it's been almost ten years. i also have some poor man's bullet time effects made the same way if you're interested. i've no idea where it all is now though. i used floppies for archiving back then. ;-)

it's easy to try though, just fire up a stop motion piece of software, use your web camera and animate a beer can or eraser around your desk, that's pretty much what i did, then apply twixtor, apple optical flow or whatever to slow it down.

Eagerly anticipating the Panny GH1 as that will make achieving all our desired effects much simpler than using the D90 (which is like the camcorder equivalent of a savant, Mozart trapped in Hellen Keller's body).

I'd suggest seeing the youtube HD version first as I probably won't have a Vimeo version up until next week as I'm still making a few changes and the current file size is over the Vimeo limit
