Best way to render in Vegas for DVD Architect

What is the best way to render a project in Vegas for dropping into DVD architect? I usually render as an .avi then drop file into DVD a and render again. Is it better to render as some form of MPEG? (MPEG 4, MPEG 2), etc.

As Jim points out there are several templates available for you to use natively in Vegas. They are optimized so you will get your best render to Mpeg 2 from Vegas. When rendering to the DVD Architect template(s) video is rendered with out the sound. First render the video then go back and select the AC 3 template for the sound track. Render the sound track to the same location (folder) as the video.

Using DVD Architect you can import both video and audio to the timeline.

Thanks for your input...

Got it figured out and it works great!

Be well....Jeffro

Is there any advantage to rendering the audio separate like that? I always select the DVD Architect template and just turn the audio on so its included....

MPEG audio isn't in the DVD spec -- it's either PCM (ucompressed) or AC-3. If you render your audio and video into the same file, DVD Architect must demux it and re-render the audio as PCM or AC-3. When it does this, it's working from highly-compressed audio and you may take a quality hit. In any case, it'll definitely increase your prepare time.

I always render the MPEG-2 file and audio into two seperate files. DVD architect works best that way, and I have done plenty of great projects in the standrd 4:3 ratio and 16:9. Just be sure if you use a 16:9 ratio that you render using the 16:9 templates.

Hi there, ur post was very helpful for me too! Many thanks..

Just wondering what is the main difference with Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 ?

Also im trying to fit 6 clips into 1 DVD architect project but the file size / disc space used keeps exceeding the 4.7gb limit.

I try to optimize this by lowering the bitrate from the standard 8mbps. What is the lowest i can go without losing too much quality?

How long are the clips and in what original format? You are losing TONS of quality going to 8Mbps. How much more you are willing to lose is solely up to you. My question, is why not use dual layer DVD? And give yourself nearly twice the space...

you know i gota be honest, i just realised what dual layer is.. im such a duche bag man lol

now that i have that sorted out, for some reason my DVD finished project keeps on making my video play in normal 720 X 576 when i select the WIDESCREEN 720 X 576.

My menu screens are all in WIDESCREEN though.. what am i doing wrong?

Thanks for that reply, I got it sorted out nows.

I actually just realised what dual layer was as im new to this stuff.

Now i am trying to work out why my dvd plays in normal 720 X 576 when i have selected the WIDESCREEN 720 X 576 format.

My menu screen is in the widescreen format but once i select the video i want to play it switches back. What am i doing wrong?

Also how do i change the button image to a jpeg or a video snapshot?

In VEGAS; i used the mpeg2 render, and the template was the DVD Architect PAL Widescreen Video Stream

In DVD architect I used the 720 X 576 Widescreen option too..

Does lowering the bitrate too much effect this to change it back to normal 720 X 576 format without telling me?

Thank you for the reply..

Modified: sorry, i just checked that the project in Vegas wasnt originally set to Widescreen... only set to render in widescreen..

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to make ur own themes in DVD architect? or change the pics in the themes to say snap shots of the video that is related to the menu you have created..

Also where do i find the 16:9 template in DVDA..or is that only available in VEGAS?

You can make the background and elements of the DVD anything you want. That's a lot of information; a trip through the manual will tell you what you need to know.

16:9 -- File>Project Properties>Properties>Video defaults>Aspect Ratio

is 8Mbps a safe bitrate for quality at rendering for playback on an average DVD player? and what would be a reason to go with less or more? thanks.

I was gona ask the same question..

I have cheaper brand DVD player in the living room i use to test my renders as a basis for worst case scenario for qaulity.

I found at 8.5mbps it doesnt skip but i get a clitch in the colour every few minutes that lasts for a micro second, blink and you would miss it.

When i play it on my DVD player in my room it is perfect, so i guess it does make a difference depending on the player you have.

Hi there, I am having trouble looping the audio / in-button video media during menu idle..

So when you got to a menu it plays the audio i have, and then after a while everything stops, the animated buttons and the music for that menu system...

I have tried loopinh it but when i move the loping select bar further to the right (to the loop point) it makes the audio selection volume lower to a '0' db value ...

Help me !
