Is it possible to change the WB-value manually

I was shooting on a stage with different color spotlights.
One of the actors was wearing a red shirt, but I couldn't get it red in my viewfinder. I tried to change the WB-value manually, but there I do not know how. Is it possible to change say a value of 5700K manually to 5100K?

Yes, in small increments, too. Go into Picture Profiles, and you'll see it there. Switch the white balance setting on the left side of the camera to preset, then do your actually white balance tweaking in the Picture Profile menu. It's great that you can change it in small values.

Yeah it's a good feature, although I wonder why they didn't make the option available in the direct menu...

I could not agree more. I would rather not have to mess around in picture profile while shooting. Especially because my LCD is usually masked off for 2.39:1.

That's one of the biggest issues with Sony's cameras, at least for shooters I've talked to: they seem to change things around with each new camera. I know, EX and HDV are two different beasts, but the cameras are very similar. If I'm not mistaken, you can control white balance in the main menu of the Z1u, though the settings are primitive and not as powerful as the EX1's. You could also set up the assign buttons to adjust blue or orange levels.

However, as I said, the fact that you can do such minute adjustments in the EX1 is great!

I just tried to change white balance manually, but failed. This must be pilot error. Any advice?

Here's what I did: I adjusted the white balance manually in a new picture profile, but when I selected that profile, the white balance didn't change to what I set for in that PP.

you have to have the white balance switch set to "Preset" and you possibly need to have the quick menu set to PART (or select preset in the full direct menu).

You can also create a PP, set the White Balance to the color temp you want. Then copy that PP to another one and change that color temp, etc...

Right now I've got three PP in my camera. They are all exactly the same except for white balance.

1) 3200
2) 5600
3) 4100
